Arsonval offers two clear starting points for planning: the construction history of the Église and the sequence of stages along L’Aube au fil de l’eau. The fifth stage ends in the town, and the sixth begins there. Between them are other cultural and culinary highlights that you can plan around differently depending on your travel dates.

Église and Musée Loukine

The Église in Arsonval has been listed as a historic monument since the protection order of 9 June 1926. Its main construction phases date from the 12th and 16th centuries. These two periods provide a concrete framework for the town’s history: the building cannot be attributed to a single century, but comprises several construction phases far apart in time.

The municipality dedicated the Musée Loukine to the painter Rostislas Loukine during his lifetime. Loukine’s work includes sacred figures and icons, scenes from stories and legends, landscapes, and portraits. Its themes thus range from religious imagery and narrative subjects to landscapes and portraits. The Musée Loukine is open year-round by appointment; please arrange your visit in advance.

Drinks and local cuisine

Domaine Nicolo & Paradis is located in an 18th-century manor house. Its winery welcomes visitors for champagne, beer, and spirits. The craft brewery Bulle de Paradis also opened in Arsonval in May 2018. At Bamboche, ingredients carefully selected from local producers are prepared on site, including French meat. The restaurant hosts themed evenings and a Sunday brunch once a month. If you plan to attend brunch, check the date for the Sunday you’ll be travelling.

Stages of L’Aube au fil de l’eau

L’Aube au fil de l’eau is a 282-kilometre, seven-day route divided into stages, with six overnight stays. The fifth stage is 43 kilometres long and runs from La Rothière via Morvilliers, Épothémont, and Soulaines-Dhuys to Arsonval. The sixth is also 43 kilometres long; it runs from Arsonval via Bar-sur-Aube, Bayel, Clairvaux, and Bergère to Couvignon. Arsonval is therefore the end point of the fifth stage and the starting point of the sixth.

The same stated distance makes comparison easy, but the stages differ in their intermediate towns and their position in the sequence: one ends in Arsonval, while the other begins there. This makes it possible to locate the town along the full route without combining the two sections into a single stage. As the route may be revised, check the current itinerary before your trip.

Accommodation and travel dates

Domaine des 7 Cépages operates six ecolodges at its Arsonval location. Availability and booking conditions may change; check them for your travel dates. Different schedules apply when planning your dates: the Musée Loukine is open by appointment, Sunday brunch takes place once a month, and the stage route may be revised. When planning your stay, take into account the date or route version that matters to you.
