Mouzon offers several ways to explore: the Trans-Ardennes Greenway is ideal for active pursuits, while the museum, trail, and historic buildings highlight topics such as wool felt, local history, and architecture. The scale ranges from a long route to a single town gate. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether you would rather discover Mouzon through an activity or its cultural and historical themes.

Get active on the Trans-Ardennes Greenway

From Mouzon, the Trans-Ardennes Greenway offers more than 130 kilometers of a protected route. It is accessible to cyclists, walkers, joggers, and roller skaters. This range of options makes the route a destination for activities in its own right: you can consider which of these ways to get around suits your stay. Before making detailed plans, it is worth checking for possible temporary construction work or restrictions, as these may affect the route infrastructure.

Wool felt and Mouzon’s industrial history

The Musée du Feutre is France’s only museum devoted entirely to wool felt. It traces Mouzon’s industrial felt-making history through the summer factory and miniature machines. The museum visit thus connects the material with its industrial importance in Mouzon; the miniature machines provide a tangible technical link to this history. At felt-making workshops, visitors can make their own felt mat. If you would like to take part, check the dates in advance, as the workshop schedule may change.

Townscape and historic buildings

The 1910 trail focuses on the changing townscape. Its 26 panels around the town show Mouzon as it was at the beginning of the 20th century and invite comparison with its appearance today. The emphasis is therefore on the contrast between different periods: the panels explore changes to the townscape rather than focusing on a single historic building.

One such building is the Tour-Porte de Bourgogne. It is the only surviving town gate from Mouzon’s fortifications, which were dismantled after the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659. The gate’s historical significance lies in this contrast between the former system of fortifications and the only surviving town gate. Those interested in Mouzon’s history will find a tangible point of reference here for this transformation.

The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Mouzon is a Gothic church dating from the 13th century. It also has a cultural role today: concerts and cultural events are held in the basilica. If a concert or event is important to your visit, check the program in advance; individual offerings may change.

Gothic figures as a treasure hunt

The tour “Le Gothique, c’est fantastique!” takes a different approach: over three sections, each lasting about 20 minutes, participants search for botanical and fantastical figures created by the builders of the abbey church. The structure combines a Gothic theme with a hands-on search activity. The tour is suitable for families with children aged six and over.

The Gallo-Roman site of Flavier

The Gallo-Roman site of Flavier has educational information panels and is freely accessible. As access conditions may change temporarily, it is a good idea to check them before visiting. The panels provide an explanatory introduction to the site and add a Gallo-Roman focus to the themes centered on Mouzon’s urban and industrial history.
