Buzancy lies on the edge of the Argonne Forest. There are several different ways to plan your visit: the Église Saint-Germain, the Musée du cheval de trait ardennais, destinations along walking trails and the Étang de La Samaritaine. You can tailor your stay to culture, wetland conservation, a mountain bike ride or a specific event date.
Architecture and history of the Église Saint-Germain
The Église Saint-Germain was designated a historic monument in 1920. Its 14th-century pointed-arch portal features openwork tympanum and a rose window. The church also houses the 12th-century statue of Notre Dame de Masmes. It comes from the Chapelle de Masmes.
Ardennes horse culture at the museum
The Musée du cheval de trait ardennais displays models of horse-drawn vehicles and numerous accessories. They illustrate the relationship between people and the powerful Ardennes draft horse breed. A visit to the museum offers a different cultural focus from the church’s architectural history: here, the horses and the vehicles associated with them take center stage.
Pond and wetland conservation
The Étang de La Samaritaine is a 700-metre-long pond with a pontoon and free access. Check access conditions before your visit, as they may change.
Since 2004, the Sentier des Castors site has been dedicated to protecting animal and plant species associated with wetlands. This focus distinguishes the trail from the named destinations on the other routes: here, preserving habitats is the priority.
Trails with different destinations
The Sentier des Trois villages invites you to enjoy a picnic at the “Fontaine qui bruit.” The La Chapelle de Masmes circular route, by contrast, leads to the Chapelle de Masmes, highlighted as the route’s main attraction. The chapel therefore features in two different contexts: as the destination of the circular route and as the original home of the statue in the Église Saint-Germain.
For a mountain bike ride, try the Odyssée VTT autour de Buzancy, a 46-kilometre circular route.
Festi’Buz in June 2027
Festi’Buz is a recurring music festival in Buzancy. The eighth edition will take place on 11 and 12 June 2027: two evenings of concerts featuring rock, pop and variety music are planned in a family-friendly atmosphere. The venue is a field very close to the Étang de La Samaritaine. If the festival is the main focus of your stay, you can plan your trip around these specific dates.
Plan your museum visit
The Musée du cheval de trait ardennais is open on Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. during the April school holidays and the July and August holidays. Check opening hours before your visit. Outside these times, the museum can open for groups of five or more on request; please arrange your visit in advance.
