A 110-kilometre greenway, a church with roots in the 12th and 13th centuries, and a ceramics workshop give Sapogne-et-Feuchères a range of attractions for a stay. There are also two annual festivals. Whether you are more interested in cycling routes, architectural history, crafts or an event date, each offers a different focus for planning your trip.
The Voie Verte Sud-Ardennes
The Voie Verte Sud-Ardennes is a 110-kilometre greenway connected to the Voie Verte Trans-Ardennes. On the route map dated January 2023, Sapogne-et-Feuchères lies on the marked route between Hannogne-Saint-Martin and Saint-Aignan. The map therefore provides an indication of the village’s location along the route; operating conditions may change.
Motor vehicles are prohibited on the route. Exceptions apply on sections where the route shares the road with other traffic, as well as for service, maintenance and emergency vehicles. Additional temporary local notices may also apply. If you include the greenway in your trip plans, therefore, check both these usage rules and the latest local notices.
Saint-Martin Church and Industrial History
Saint-Martin Church stands on a hill south of the village and dates mainly from the 12th and 13th centuries. Its floor plan forms a subtly defined Latin cross. It also features a three-aisled nave, a massive bell tower, a false transept and a choir. Visitors interested in architecture can look not only at the church’s age, but also at its layout and unusual floor plan.
Another historical trace leads to the former furniture factory. It began operating at the start of the 20th century; production ended after the Second World War. A brick chimney and the stream’s inlet channel are still visible from the outside. The factory is privately owned and should be viewed from outside. It offers a distinct perspective on the village’s industrial history, without suggesting that the factory has a publicly accessible interior.
Ceramics and a Visit to the Workshop Shop
Terres de l’Est is a workshop shop in Sapogne-et-Feuchères. Its focus is pottery and ceramics, as well as jewellery, Saint-Amand stoneware and porcelain. The visitor presentation includes a 20-minute explanatory video, followed by an introduction to the pottery techniques used by Eric Pahon. The programme may change. Information about products and availability may also change.
The workshop shop welcomes visitors on Saturdays from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Visits on weekdays are possible by appointment. Check the opening hours before your visit, especially if the workshop is a fixed part of your trip plans.
Festivals and Suitable Travel Dates
The Fête patronale takes place every year on the penultimate weekend of July and draws between 1,500 and 2,000 people. Its traditional programme includes a barbecue followed by dancing; arrangements may vary from year to year. Sapogne-et-Feuchères also holds a Halloween parade every year on 31 October. Check the dates for your travel year before planning your stay around them.
When looking for a hotel in Sapogne-et-Feuchères, first consider whether a festival date or a visit to Terres de l’Est will determine your timing. The dates for that year are key for the Fête patronale and the Halloween parade; for the workshop, check the opening hours and the appointment requirement for weekday visits.
