Ormes combines agricultural history, church art and forest trails. The Maison de la Polyculture, the Notre-Dame de la Nativité church and the Domaine de la Canaudière each offer a different focus. You can plan your trip around whether you want to focus on exhibitions and historic art or on walks, cycling and wildlife observation.
Agriculture at the Maison de la Polyculture
Two permanent exhibitions at the Maison de la Polyculture focus on the cultivation and processing of wheat and grapevines. The museum also displays 19th- and 20th-century farming tools that illustrate agricultural work in Ormes and the Beauce Loirétaine. The Maison is housed in a restored former winegrower’s farmhouse—a building that also reflects the area’s agricultural history. Admission is free, subject to availability. Check the current visiting arrangements before you travel.
Once a month, the Maison hosts the « Ateliers du mercredi ». Groups of ten children explore a topic for an hour at a time in a playful and often creative way. If this event is an important part of your plans, check the current events calendar before deciding when to visit.
Church and historic art
The Notre-Dame de la Nativité church was consecrated on 19 October 1871. Inside is a polychrome wooden depiction of the Virgin and Child from the 18th century. The consecration and the artwork thus refer to different historical periods: the depiction predates the church’s consecration. In addition to the agricultural themes at the Maison, the church offers another cultural focus for planning your trip.
Walks and nature at the Domaine de la Canaudière
The Domaine de la Canaudière is a 200-hectare woodland open to the public. The grounds offer opportunities for walking and cycling, as well as paths suitable for strollers. This gives you different ways to spend time outdoors without having to enjoy all the activities in the same way. Access may vary during hunting seasons, so check the conditions for your planned visit in advance.
Wildlife enthusiasts will find an educational trail for observing wildlife there. An arboretum with 200 species from around the world offers a different focus. When planning, you can choose whether to concentrate on walking or cycling, or to include the educational trail and arboretum.
Getting there and guided excursions
Ormes can be reached by car via the A10, D2157 and D955. When travelling from the north or west, you pass through the wheat, maize and rapeseed fields of the Beauce plain on your way to Ormes. The agricultural landscape is therefore part of the journey, not just something you encounter in the exhibitions.
Full Mobility offers guided excursions on electric motorcycles through the Orléanaise region and natural landscapes. You can take part even if you have never ridden a motorcycle before; the applicable participation requirements still apply. This is a different kind of experience from walks and exhibitions: you travel with a guide on electric motorcycles. If interested, check current availability, equipment and operating conditions before booking.
