The Church of Saint-Aignan brings together two distinct views of Baule’s local heritage: its architectural design and the imagery in its stained-glass windows. Architect Benjamin Ricard designed the present-day church; it was consecrated on 2 August 1866. At the west end, it has a bell-tower porch topped by a stone spire. The painted stained-glass windows depict the Sacrifice of Abraham. Those interested in architectural history can therefore focus at one site both on the design of the building and on a specific religious image. The church offers a way to consider a single building, while the heritage walk provides a broader perspective on rural architecture.
In front of the Church of Saint-Aignan, a memorial honours Abbé Pasty and Resistance group 55 A of the Buckmaster network. It is located on Rue de l’Abbé Pasty in Baule.
Discover Baule on foot or by bike
The Baule heritage walk comprises ten stops and can be completed on foot or by bike. It invites visitors to discover Baule through its rural architecture, which bears witness to the area’s former links with the Loire and its winegrowing. In the hamlet of Baulette in particular, exterior staircases are part of an old tradition on compactly built winegrowers’ farms, with living quarters above a cellar. The walk thus combines a look at rural architecture with a specific building feature associated with winegrowing.
For multi-day cycling trips, a different perspective awaits: from Baule, you can take a multi-day cycling tour along the Loire on the Loire à Vélo route. The local heritage walk and the Loire à Vélo address different planning needs. For the walk, the ten stops and the choice between walking and cycling define the format; the Loire à Vélo is a multi-day tour along the river. Check the route conditions before setting off.
Seasonal events at La Corne des Pâtures
La Corne des Pâtures welcomes visitors in Baule every day from mid-June to the end of August. During this seasonal period, the programme includes daily concerts, games, open-air cinema and street art. Check the dates before travelling. A producers’ market is also held there once a week. Food served at the market preferentially uses products from short supply chains. The market takes place weekly, while events are held daily: if you are coming specifically for the producers’ market, check the relevant day of the week in advance; for the events, the seasonal period is what matters.
Getting there and finding your way around
Baule railway station is north of the RD2152 and 150 metres from local shops. Bus route 9B connects Baule with Le Bardon, Chaingy and Orléans. Check the latest timetable details before travelling. This gives you two distinct points of reference for planning: the station’s location and the destinations served by the bus route.
