Beauchêne can be explored in two different ways: on foot along the Circuit de la Gargeresse loop trail, or by bike on “De bois en bois C16.” Both take in the Perche countryside, but with different focuses: the walking trail passes through four hamlets, while the cycling route runs through forests, sunken lanes and open fields. There is also the Church of Saint-Jacques, with its architectural history and historic furnishings. Nature and cultural heritage thus stand as distinct reasons for choosing a stay.

On foot through four hamlets

The Circuit de la Gargeresse is an easy 12 km walk that takes about 3 hours and 45 minutes. The loop trail passes through the hamlets of La Motte, Pilpé, Le Goutier and Le Gros-Dos. At just under four hours, the approximate duration makes it easier to gauge the time required for planning a day than the distance alone. The starting point is the car park opposite the church; the route is marked with the official PR signs of the Fédération Française de Randonnée Pédestre: yellow bars.

The trail runs through the wooded Perche countryside around Beauchêne, past hedgerows and pollarded trees. These features add a concrete picture of the route to the names of the four hamlets: as well as woodland, the landscape includes hedges and distinctive trees. When choosing between the loop trail and the cycling route, you can therefore consider not only the mode of travel, but also the landscape features described.

The Church of Saint-Jacques and local history

The Church of Saint-Jacques is a neoclassical building, rebuilt in 1843 in the hamlet of Nid de Loup. Its furnishings include several statues from the 16th and 17th centuries, transferred from the former church, as well as an 18th-century bell. The construction date and furnishings thus bring together different historical periods within the same church.

La Motte also connects the walking trail with the history of Beauchêne: the hamlet lies on the route, and the remains of ditches mark the former site of the church and presbytery of Beauchêne. The Church of Saint-Jacques and this former site are distinct points of reference for local history. The information about the church spans its reconstruction in Nid de Loup and the older statues and bell; the remains at La Motte point to another part of the parish.

By bike through forests and sunken lanes

The 21 km cycling route “De bois en bois C16” starts in Beauchêne and runs through Perche forests, sunken lanes and open fields. The route’s starting point is listed as 5 Route de Danzé, 41170 Beauchêne. This gives you both a specific address and a clear route length for finding your way. The landscapes described vary from one section to the next: woodland, sunken lanes and open spaces shape the route.

A comparison with the Circuit de la Gargeresse brings the different focuses into view. For the walk, an approximate duration of 3 hours and 45 minutes and the four hamlets along the route are specified; for the cycling route, a distance of 21 km is given. These distances apply to two different modes of travel and are therefore not a direct measure of time. When comparing the options, you can look at the features of each route: hamlets, hedgerows and pollarded trees on the walking trail; forests, sunken lanes and open fields on the cycling route.

Another cycling route is “Sommet du Loir-et-Cher.” Its section in Beauchêne lists the Church of Saint-Jacques and a washhouse. This adds another point of interest linked to the church alongside the two routes described in more detail, without conflating the different routes.
