In the Cozanne Valley, Cheilly-lès-Maranges lies between Montagne des Trois Croix and Montagne de Chassey-le-Camp. Vineyards, meadows, forests and rivers shape the landscape. Several highlights can help you plan your trip: a circular hike, insights into winegrowing, historic buildings and the Canal du Centre. Plan your stay around what interests you most locally—outdoor activity, wine or local history.

Hiking in the Maranges

The “Randonnée dans les Maranges” starts in Cheilly-lès-Maranges and is an 8.3-kilometre circular route. It is rated as a moderately difficult walk and is listed as taking 2 hours and 30 minutes. Along the way, views open up over the three villages and the three crosses. The distance, circular route and duration give you a concrete framework for planning your day; check local trail conditions before setting out.

Winegrowing and regional products

Domaine Clos Saint Jean offers a tour of its estate. The tour covers grapevines and winegrowing, climate, terroir and the decision to use organic farming methods. It then continues in the cellar, where the winemaker uses documents to explain how grapes are made into wine. The tour therefore covers the process from growing grapes to winemaking. Check the current tour arrangements in advance.

La Cave de Cheilly’s selection includes wines from Burgundy, including Côtes de Nuits, Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis. Spirits, beers and selected terrines are also available; the product selection may change. The two offerings have different focuses: the Domaine tour is about growing grapes and processing them, while La Cave offers Burgundian wines and other products.

Church and washhouse

The Church of Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul was built in 1877 in the Neo-Gothic style. A large 17th-century crucifix is located at the entrance; it was designated a Monument historique in 2001. The same building thus brings together 19th-century Neo-Gothic church architecture and an older sacred object.

The Lavoir de la fontaine Saint-Pierre offers a different architectural feature. The rectangular building is open at the front, with a rectangular basin made of dressed stone inside. A roof covers the entire structure. Its open front and continuous roofline describe its design through a few clear features.

By the Canal du Centre

The Port de Cheilly on the Canal du Centre is now a river stop with a reinforced section of bank on the left bank. The canal and port add another local point of interest to the landscape of valleys, mountains, vineyards, meadows and forests.
