Prusly-Sur-Ource brings together the landscape of the “Vallée et coteaux à Prusly-sur-Ource” area, the architectural history of the Crépan site, and local pottery and wine. If you are looking for a holiday rental for your stay, you can start by choosing what interests you most: nature, historic architecture, crafts or wine. This lets you tailor your destination to different interests rather than reducing it to a single attraction.

Landscape and interest in nature

A 2024 environmental survey lists the “Vallée et coteaux à Prusly-sur-Ource” area as ZNIEFF Type I No. 260030080. It describes a notable interest in fauna and flora. The name refers to the valley and hillsides; the landscape and its animal and plant life are equally part of the natural setting. This offers a different focus from Crépan’s architectural and technical history and the mill.

The architectural history of Crépan

A castle built in the Middle Ages by the lords of Crépan stood at the Crépan site. A château was built in the same place in the 18th century and rebuilt after a fire in 1896. The site also includes a dovecote dating from the last quarter of the 16th century; the inscription “EN MAY 1598” appears above its entrance. The distinction between the dates is important: 1598 belongs to the inscription on the dovecote, while 1896 refers to the rebuilding of the château. At Crépan, the medieval castle, dovecote and later château therefore represent several building phases, rather than all the dates referring to a single building.

The mill and former milling technology

The mill, now used as a residence, is located in the hamlet of Ferme de Crépan beside a millrace diverted from the Ource. The shafts of the wheels and the associated mechanism of the former millstones have been preserved. This adds a technical perspective to the architectural history: the watercourse and surviving mechanism point to the mill’s former operation.

Pottery from the studio

Atelier au coeur de la Terre – Poterie Laurence Petit works with white stoneware clay, throwing it on the wheel or shaping it from slabs. The pottery features a variety of decorations, including owls, irises and poppies; custom orders are also made. Alongside the motifs, the material and the shaping process offer different ways to appreciate the studio’s work. The studio offers pottery-wheel demonstrations and explanations of the various stages of production. Custom-made pottery and a demonstration are two different types of offering: the order concerns the finished piece, while the demonstration offers an insight into how it is made. If you are mainly interested in the process, ask specifically about the demonstration arrangements.

Wine and planning your visit

Beaufort Alice offers cellar tours and wine tastings at its Ferme du bois de Langres wine estate in Prusly-Sur-Ource. The wine offering has a different focus from the pottery: it centres on wine cellars and tastings rather than materials and production. Visit planning also differs: studio demonstrations are available on request; you should confirm availability for cellar tours and tastings before your visit.
