Marey-Lès-Fussey can be explored through its distinctive features: truffle experiences, land under vines, rolling countryside and named historic buildings. The Maison aux Mille Truffes provides a clear focal point for the area’s culinary offerings; road routes and the GR 76 also help visitors find their way around the commune. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether regional cuisine, scenery or heritage should shape your stay.

Truffle Hunting and Cuisine

At the Maison aux Mille Truffes, Nicolas and Taïga demonstrate truffle hunting, known as “cavage,” in the grounds. Visitors can also learn about truffles and their surroundings. Afterwards, they can enjoy a truffle tasting or a “Tout à la Truffe” lunch. The house is therefore a specific destination for guests interested in truffles not only as a culinary experience, but also in how they are found and the environment in which they grow.

The Maison is also the starting point for the Route de la Truffe in the Côte-d’Or. Its boutique sells, among other things, Ratatruffe, mustard with Burgundy truffle, and a type of Persillé called “Truffillé,” made with Burgundy truffle. The selection may change.

Wine Country and Getting Around

The commune of Marey-Lès-Fussey is made up of a mosaic of agricultural, vineyard and forest plots. The village is particularly easy to see from the southern vineyard slope. To the north, the valley of the Lieu-Dieu stream forms part of Marey-Lès-Fussey’s varied, hilly landscape. The view from the vineyard slope and the valley to the north offer two distinct points of reference for getting your bearings.

The commune also lies within the “COTE ET ARRIERE COTE DE DIJON” ZNIEFF natural area, classified as type 2. This designation complements the specific landscape features of its agricultural, vineyard and forest plots.

The difference between the routes taken by roads and trails is helpful for finding your way around. The GR 76 long-distance trail runs along the western edge of the commune; the RD 8 crosses Marey-Lès-Fussey from northwest to southeast. In the southeast, it provides a quick link to the Côte des Vins. The trail therefore lies along the western edge, while the road crosses the commune and connects it to the regional wine-growing area.

Church, Abbey and History

The Saint-Barthélémy Church and Lieu-Dieu Abbey are designated in the approved 2020 PLU as built heritage of cultural, historical and architectural interest. These two named buildings with heritage significance are therefore among the landmarks of Marey-Lès-Fussey.

The abbey’s history also includes the past of its site: the site of Lieu-Dieu Abbey was already inhabited 500 years before our era. This date refers to the site and complements the building’s heritage significance with a history of early settlement.
