Saint-Jacques-De-La-Lande combines nature in the town centre with a diverse cultural programme. Parc de la Morinais covers 40 hectares; theatre, artist residencies and circus offerings provide further highlights. There is also a commemorative tradition that has been maintained since 1947. When planning your trip, you can consider nature, contemporary culture and history as distinct interests and arrange your stay accordingly.
Nature in the heart of town
In the town centre, Parc de la Morinais offers 40 hectares of nature. The département has designated it an Espace naturel sensible; it is open to the public so everyone can discover nature. Walking and cycling paths run through the park. You can explore the area on foot or plan a bike ride. As a natural area in the centre, the park is a distinct highlight alongside the municipality’s cultural offerings.
Theatre and artistic work
Théâtre L’Aire Libre offers a year-round, multidisciplinary programme featuring theatre, music, solo performances and ongoing productions. The specific offerings change. The theatre hosts artists in residence who develop new work; these works in progress are presented to the public. The programme therefore includes artistic development processes as well as performances. In addition, Théâtre L’Aire Libre is open to the public outside performance times. Its public role thus extends beyond individual evenings on stage.
Historic farm and circus arts
Ferme du Haut Bois is the former farm of the neighbouring château and dates back to the 17th century. Since the 1990s, it has served as a place to host artists, support artistic work and stage performances. Since 2024, the farm has been home to the Ay-Roop collective and has served as a place for artistic research, welcoming the public, encounters and discoveries related to circus arts. The former agricultural function and today’s cultural work are rooted in the same place.
Commemorative tradition and other cultural events
Le Milieu offers seasonal circus events as small programme highlights spread throughout the year and following the seasons. Individual events and dates may change.
Since 1947, a commemorative ceremony has been held on 30 December for those executed at the Butte des Fusillés de la Maltière. The fixed date gives this tradition of remembrance a clear point in time.
Médiathèque Lucien Herr adds regular activities to the cultural programme, including story times for babies, holiday workshops and exhibitions. The specific dates matter for each activity, so check the current schedule before visiting.
The commemorative ceremony takes place every year on 30 December. Le Milieu offers seasonal circus events throughout the year, while Théâtre L’Aire Libre has a year-round programme with changing offerings. If a particular event is the deciding factor, plan your travel dates around its scheduled date.
