Around ten poetry boards are spread throughout the town centre and green spaces of Saint-Brice-En-Coglès. This fits the “Village en Poésie” label: poetry can be discovered at various places around the town. The installations may be updated. The present-day Church of Saint-Brice also tells a longer story: it is the third place of worship to have been built on this site.

Local History and Remarkable Buildings

The “Balade Urbaine” walking routes explore the heritage of the town centres of Saint-Brice-En-Coglès and Saint-Etienne-en-Coglès. Another way to discover the area’s history is the “Marche des Châteaux”, a circular walking route linked to Saint-Brice-En-Coglès. A short detour along the pond offers a view of the courtyard of honour and main building of the Château de la Motte. The château was listed as a Monument Historique in 1975.

Rocher Portail is a privately owned monument built in the 17th century and an immersive theme park dedicated to witchcraft. The programme includes magic lessons, learning spells, making a wand and broomstick flying lessons. Activities may change. A visit thus combines historic buildings with a themed experience to suit different interests.

Forest Trails and Green Spaces

The 22-hectare Bois de la Motte is an Espace Naturel Sensible managed by the département, with forest trails. The area is open to the public for discovering the flora and fauna of this woodland habitat. The paths make for an easy walk for much of the year; ground conditions may vary seasonally. Access conditions may also change, so it is worth checking them before your visit.

The arboretum at Espace Loysance has newly planted trees, picnic tables and poetry boards. The plantings and facilities may continue to develop. Together with the boards in the town centre, it offers another place where nature and poetry meet.

Cycling and Routes in the Surrounding Area

The former railway line, now used as the Voie verte VD3, runs through the south of Saint-Brice-En-Coglès. At the Château d’eau service area on Rue de la Gare, there are picnic tables, charging stations for e-bikes, an air pump and repair station, and two Vél’box bike lockers with power outlets. Check the current status of these facilities before travelling.

Saint-Brice-En-Coglès is also the starting point for the 32-kilometre Boucle des Picaous cycling route. The Fougères–Mont-Saint-Michel cycle route via La Régalante is a section of the new “La Régalante” cycle route. Parts of the route follow a gravel-surfaced Voie verte built along a former railway line. For planning purposes, the key details are the 32 kilometres of the Boucle des Picaous and the partly gravel-surfaced section of La Régalante. Signage and conditions may change; checking the latest information before setting off can help with planning.

Market and Finding Accommodation

At the Friday market in Saint-Brice-En-Coglès, the food truck Les Locos sells galettes, crêpes, bread baked in a wood-fired oven and Pommé. If you plan to visit the market, check in advance whether the stall will be there. The different highlights can help you decide whether to stay overnight in Saint-Brice-En-Coglès: local history, a walk in the forest or a cycling route. This makes it possible to first assess the destination in light of your interests before looking for suitable accommodation.
