In Bruz, opportunities to enjoy nature sit alongside tangible traces of local history. The Vilaine shapes the landscape at Le Boël and the Pont-Réan Bridge; at Parc de l’An 2000, themed walks explore nature and storytelling traditions. There is also a historic walking trail and buildings with very different stories to tell. During your stay, you can choose between outdoor activities and cultural discoveries.

Enjoy the Vilaine, the Seiche and nature

Le Boël in Bruz overlooks the Vilaine. On steep rocky cliffs, dry heathland, schist ridges and woodland combine to create a striking landscape. A one-kilometre walking loop starts at the car park there. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting off. Climbing enthusiasts will find three sectors at Le Boël, with a total of 65 routes graded from 5B to 8B. The climbing area is a freely accessible outdoor sports facility for experienced climbers; check access and safety requirements before using it.

The 19-hectare Parc de l’An 2000 is located in the centre of Bruz. Paths run along the Seiche, and the park is classified as an LPO bird sanctuary. Two discovery trails offer different perspectives: one focuses on fauna and flora, while the other explores legends and poems. The cycling routes for exploring Bruz also start at the park’s car park, on the road to Laillé. They are described as easy and suitable for children. Another option is Vélo Promenade No. 13, which connects Bruz and its surroundings through a landscape shaped by the Vilaine, the Seiche and the ponds alongside them.

Bridges, trails and architectural history

The Pont-Réan Bridge over the Vilaine consists of nine schist arches. The boundary between Bruz and Guichen runs through the fifth arch. The bridge was built in Gallo-Roman times and rebuilt between 1753 and 1767. Today, walkers, cyclists and canoeists use it. Its history and location on the Vilaine make it a special destination for anyone who wants to discover the landscape and historic buildings together.

For a walk focused on local history, try the 2.8-kilometre Parcours Jacques Martin. Twenty illustrated panels line the route, and QR codes provide access to additional content about Bruz’s history, from the Middle Ages to its reconstruction in the 1950s. By comparison, the one-kilometre walking loop at Le Boël is considerably shorter and focuses more on the landscape. The two routes therefore differ in both length and subject matter.

The buildings in Bruz also tell stories from different eras. The present-day church of Saint-Martin-de-Tours was built in 1950 by architect Chouinard, replacing a building damaged during the war. Violet schist quarried near Bruz was used in its reconstruction. The Moulin du Boël was built in 1652 and restored between 1965 and 1972. The Moulin de Champcors represents more than a thousand years of using the power of the Vilaine to grind grain.

Culture and practical information for your stay

Le Grand Logis is Bruz’s municipal cultural centre, with a media library and an events hall. Each year, it presents around thirty events to the public; the specific programme varies by season. In Parc de la Herverie, a memorial commemorates the heavy bombing on the night of 7–8 May 1944. Visitors interested in walks, meet-ups or guided tours can find relevant activities through the association Les amis du Boël et du patrimoine bruzois. Programmes and availability may change, so check in advance which activities are taking place on your dates.

Bruz has two rail stops for arrivals by train: Bruz station is in the town centre, and there is also the Ker Lann Bruz stop. As timetables can change, it is worth checking current connections when planning your journey. This makes it possible to choose nature, trails and culture as different focuses for a stay in Bruz, without requiring a particular order.
