At Plage des Amiets, broad sandy shores meet water sports; at Pointe de Theven Braz, coastal views and traces of granite quarrying take center stage. Cleder brings together beach time, landscapes and a range of historical themes. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you’d rather be active on the water, take in the coast or explore architectural history.

Beach and activities at Plage des Amiets

Plage des Amiets in Cleder is a wide beach with light-colored sand, bordered by dunes; the water has turquoise reflections. Swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing are possible here. The options range from swimming to several water sports. If you’re looking for a focus on activities by the water, you can use this specific selection as a guide, while the sand and dunes also define the beach as a landscape in its own right.

The beach is lifeguarded in summer, and showers and restrooms are available. Check seasonal lifeguard coverage and facilities before your trip.

Coastal views and traces of granite quarrying

Pointe de Theven Braz is a long headland jutting out into the sea, offering panoramic views across the entire Cleder coastline. This coastal outlook differs from the broad beach at Plage des Amiets: at the Pointe, the focus is on the headland extending into the sea and the expansive view. The headland also tells of an earlier use: granite was quarried there. Stonecutters left marks on the large rock in the middle of the headland. Natural features, views and working history come together here in one place.

Architectural history at Manoir de Tronjoly

At Manoir de Tronjoly, the focus is on architectural history and the manor’s specific features. It was built in the 16th century by the de Kergoët family; construction of the oldest east wing began in 1535. The manor is designed in the Classical style and has triangular and semicircular dormers. These two dormer shapes give the roof a distinctive architectural accent: alongside the overall Classical design, the contrast between triangle and semicircle is another point of interest. The manor is privately owned. The grounds and chapel can be viewed freely from the outside year-round; access is subject to the owner’s current rules.

The Corps de Garde de Lavillo

The Corps de Garde de Lavillo adds a specific function to the architectural history: it was used to monitor passing boats. The sequence of dates is important here because it refers to two different events. Vauban selected the site around 1690; the Corps was built between 1730 and 1740. The two dates mark distinct steps: first the site was selected, and later the building was constructed. Together with its role in monitoring boats, this gives the site a different historical character from the manor.
