Carantec offers a variety of ways to experience the coast and its landscapes: small coves, dunes, gorse, fields and pastures shape the scenery on Île Callot. Kelenn Beach offers water sports, while Golf de la Baie de Morlaix and guided oyster farm tours provide different experiences. There is also a park with expansive views and a neo-Gothic church with its own history. You can tailor your stay to the things that interest you most.
Île Callot: Factor in the tides when planning
The landscape of Île Callot is characterized by small coves and open spaces. Dunes and gorse alternate with fields and pastures. If you would like to visit the island, plan your access around the tides: At low tide, you can reach it from the harbor on foot or by bicycle via a causeway about 800 meters long. The causeway can be flooded, so the crossing is not accessible regardless of the water level. Check the tides before your visit so you can factor this tide-dependent connection into your plans.
The island offers a different kind of coastal experience from looking out over the bay: here, the focus is on access via the causeway and a landscape of coves, dunes and cultivated land. The approximate length of the causeway describes the distance, not how long it takes to cross. Low tide remains essential to planning, as it is explicitly part of the access conditions.
Parkland and views over the bay
Parc Claude-Goude, open year-round, is located at Pointe de Pen al Lann. Its notable tree species are among its special features. The terrace offers panoramic views of the Bay of Morlaix and the oyster parks. Nature and landscape share the spotlight here: the tree species shape the park, while the terrace opens up views across the bay and the oyster parks. This offers a distinct experience from the tides and open landscape of Île Callot.
Carantec Church and its history
Carantec's neo-Gothic church was built in 1867 to plans by François de Kergrist. The church of Saint-Carantec also has a monumental entrance gate with its own history: it comes from the former manor house of Kerangoaguet. These two details offer different ways to explore local architectural history—one through the church's date and architect, the other through the gate's former location. The manor house is the gate's place of origin; this does not imply that any named person lived there.
Water sports, golf and oysters
Carantec Nautisme is located at Kelenn Beach and offers sailing, diving, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, wingfoiling, windfoiling and aquawalking. The activities available to the public may vary by season. If you have a particular activity in mind, check what is on offer before your visit. The different disciplines give the water sports program a range of options, without implying that any activity is suitable for every visitor.
Golf de la Baie de Morlaix in Carantec has an approved 9-hole course and is open to players of all skill levels. Golf lessons range from beginner instruction to improving your game, and are available as private lessons or group courses. You can choose between playing a round and taking lessons—and, for lessons, between individual and group formats.
During an oyster farm tour, a professional guide takes visitors around the local oyster parks. The tour ends with an oyster tasting on site. The scenery, guided tour and tasting are part of a connected experience: you explore the oyster parks on the tour and finish your visit with a tasting.
