Quintin reveals its history in several ways: the Château tells the story of medieval fortifications, while linen weaving reflects the town’s economic importance. A walk through the historic centre, the La Fabrique – Atelier du Lin museum and the basilica add local history, craftsmanship and architecture to these themes. If you choose Quintin as your destination, you can plan your stay around these highlights and also set aside time for local festivals or nature watching.

Linen Culture and Local History

Between 1650 and 1830, Quintin was considered the most important trading centre for the Manufacture des toiles « Bretagnes ». The history of this Breton linen-weaving industry provides a connecting thread for your visit. At the municipal museum La Fabrique – Atelier du Lin, the processing of flax is shown from seed to cloth. Visitors can also touch the flax fibre there. This lets you explore the subject through both its historic role in trade and the processing of the material. Museum opening hours may vary seasonally; check the visiting arrangements before your trip.

The “Balade Quintin – centre historique” takes you past eleven stops. Information panels and QR codes tell the story of the town from its origins to the heyday of Breton linen weaving. The walk offers a distinct way to explore local history, while La Fabrique focuses on the journey from flax to cloth. Together, the two experiences provide an accessible overview of Quintin’s textile tradition without relying solely on historical dates.

Château, Basilica and Half-Timbered Houses

The historic ensemble of the Château de Quintin includes medieval defensive walls and an archive tower. Two châteaux stand on the estate in a shared park. The 18th-century Château de Quintin is open to visitors and includes furnished apartments; check the seasonal arrangements before your trip. The permanent exhibition “Les Merveilles de nos collections” continues in 2026. It showcases everyday objects and evidence of ways of life from the 18th century to the present. Exhibition details may change.

The Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-Délivrance is a 19th-century building with a Neo-Gothic bell tower. It was rebuilt in 1887 on the site of the former collegiate church. The basilica is open daily; as access may change on exceptional occasions, check visitor information before your visit. At Place 1830, half-timbered houses stand as longstanding examples of Breton architecture. The Bonhomme de Quintin is also located there: the sculpture on a town mansion faces a half-timbered house opposite and recalls historical rivalries between local lawyers.

Festivals and Nature Throughout the Year

The Weavers’ Festival, the “Fête des Tisserands”, has been held every year on the first weekend of August since 1993. The programme includes costumed processions and creations by young designers on the theme of linen. The Festival des Chanteurs de Rue brings music to the streets of Quintin in the open air each year at the start of autumn; dates vary from year to year. Check event dates and the programme before planning your visit around them. Another way to discover the Château and park through play is the “Murder Party au Château de Quintin”, an interactive game offered to the public since 2017. Current dates must be confirmed separately.

Nature watching can also be part of your plans. Parc Roz-Maria is a shaded park in Quintin. The shores of the Quintin pond offer an opportunity to observe local bird species. The park and pond therefore offer different experiences: the park’s shaded surroundings and birdwatching by the water.
