Pleumeur-Bodou brings together a range of travel interests: telecommunications history, astronomy and coastal scenery. To help you choose, consider which focus you would like to shape your stay. The Cité des Télécoms brings together exhibitions and tours on the history of technology, the Planétarium de Bretagne focuses on astronomy and celestial phenomena, while Île Grande offers a different perspective with a clearly defined coastal loop.

Telecommunications history at the Radôme

The Cité des Télécoms park covers 25 hectares; its permanent and temporary exhibitions span a total of 3,000 metres. The Cité is located at the site of the first transatlantic satellite transmissions. Its significance in the history of technology therefore lies not only in the exhibition subject matter, but also in the site itself.

The Cité des Télécoms offers the 360° tour “Éternelle Notre-Dame – édition spéciale Cité des Télécoms” as well as an immersive tour through the Radôme. The latter is classified as a historic monument. The site’s history and today’s tour formats thus sit side by side within the same cultural offering.

Astronomy at the Planétarium de Bretagne

The Planétarium de Bretagne presents 360° shows about astronomy and celestial phenomena beneath one of France’s largest domes. A session lasts 50 minutes. A temporary exhibition in the foyer can be visited before or after a session. This gives you a simple choice about the order of your visit: see the exhibition first and then the show, or vice versa.

Coastal scenery and activities on Île Grande

Le tour de l'Ile Grande is a 7-kilometre coastal path, marked as a GR route, that circles Île Grande. It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes and passes the Marais de Kervoalant, beaches and the dunes of Toul Gwenn. The stated distance and duration give the walk a concrete framework. Compared with a visit to the planetarium, the difference in timing is clear: a session there lasts 50 minutes, while the coastal loop takes about two and a half hours.

The Base Nautique de l'Ile Grande offers paddle excursions and paddleboard rental, as well as coastal water walking. This means that, alongside a walk on foot, you can also choose activities on the water. Which option best suits your travel interests depends on whether you prefer a clearly defined route, a paddle excursion or a rental.

The museum at the Station LPO de l'Ile Grande explores the ecosystem of the 7 islands through a live video feed, films and multimedia content, dioramas and interactive modules. The subject can thus be explored through a range of formats: moving images complement the three-dimensional dioramas and interactive elements. The museum therefore offers a different focus from the sporting activities on the coast.

Architecture and other routes

The Chapelle de Saint-Samson is a chapel in the Beaumanoir architectural style. Its bell-gable wall is flanked by a small turret with a dome. This specific architectural feature brings the classification to life. The Route Menhirs et chapelles also connects its theme with a route: it partly follows the well-known GR34 long-distance trail.

Guided tours led by the LPO are offered at Castel Erek. If you plan to include this stop, check the dates in advance. This allows you to treat the visit as a separate activity that depends on scheduled dates, while Pleumeur-Bodou’s other attractions offer different ways to experience culture, astronomy and coastal scenery.
