Illifaut combines architectural history with the preservation of local fruit varieties and a versatile roller sports track. When planning your trip, you can balance architecture, nature and physical activity.

Traditional Orchard and Local Fruit Varieties

The Frère Henri Golletais traditional orchard was established in Illifaut in 1998 and helps preserve local apple and pear varieties. The site also includes a Maison du laboureur, a shelter for the wine press, a cellar and a wood-fired oven. Preserving varieties and several architectural features share the same grounds here—offering a different perspective from the architectural history of the château and church. If you plan to visit the orchard, check access arrangements in advance.

Architectural History and Details

The Château de la Ville-Thual is privately owned and was built by the Desprez family in 1876. It has an L-shaped floor plan and a round corner tower with a conical roof. The walls are plastered, with granite used for the surrounds and corner quoins. As the château is privately owned, plan a visit only after access has been confirmed.

At Saint-Samson Church, two dates mark successive events: the foundation stone was blessed on 11 October 1885, and the church on 28 July 1889. Just under four years separate the two dates. Each transept contains a six-light stained-glass window from 1889. Six lights means six narrow window sections; the description applies to each transept individually. The church can thus be understood through its construction chronology and a precisely identified architectural detail.

Another historic landmark is the Notre-Dame de Bonne-Nouvelle Chapel in La Bruyère. It was rebuilt and blessed on 6 December 1759.

Roller Sports and Digital Themed Trails

Illifaut’s pump track is located at Stade Pierre QUETTIER. This versatile roller sports track has bumps and banked turns and can be used with mountain bikes, BMX bikes, roller skates, scooters and skateboards. The listed activities therefore extend beyond cycling. If you plan to use a particular type of equipment, check the current usage arrangements in advance.

The Sentiers Virtuels d’Illifaut offer themed areas about the town centre, villages, occupations, trees, plants and water. They were opened at Ville Tual on 8 October 2022. The themes offer different perspectives: the town centre, villages and occupations explore human and local connections, while trees, plants and water focus on nature. The Hyvet River flows through Illifaut. If you plan to explore the digital themed trails, check in advance whether they are currently available.

Practical Information for Motorhome Travellers

The motorhome service point at Ville Tual operates with tokens, which are sold at the local café, bakery and town hall. If you plan to use the service point, check in advance whether the listed outlets currently sell tokens. This lets you tailor this part of your plans to the services available locally.
