Berhet brings together architectural and art history with a signposted cycling loop. At the Notre-Dame de Confort Chapel, several stages of construction and furnishing can be distinguished; with its stair tower, the Manoir de Léodanet shapes the landscape. A cycling loop through the village centre offers another option. Berhet provides two distinct starting points for anyone wishing to include cultural interests and cycling in their travel plans.
Notre-Dame de Confort Chapel
The Notre-Dame de Confort Chapel was founded in 1523 by the lords of Perrier, completed in 1537 and consecrated in 1549. This sequence highlights the distinction between founding, completion and consecration. The main altar retable dates from 1715 and is the work of sculptor Vincent Rivoalan and painter François Bahic of Lannion. Thus, a later layer of furnishings complements the building’s history. On 16 August 1922, the chapel was classified as a French historic monument.
Sainte-Brigitte and Sacred Art
The former parish church of Sainte-Brigitte in Berhet contains a rich collection of furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries, several statues and a baptismal font with a lead cover. The painted ceiling vault has its own history, too: it was created by Raphaël Donguy (1812–1877) and restored in 2015. Visits to the parish church of Sainte-Brigitte are possible by request through the mairie. As access information may change, please confirm it with the mairie before your visit.
Manoir de Léodanet and Ar Croaz Wayside Cross
The present building of the Manoir de Léodanet features architectural elements dating from the late 15th century or the first half of the 16th century. The old complex served both as a lord’s residence and as an agricultural holding. Its substantial scale and stair tower shape the landscape. The history of the manor therefore encompasses both its use as a residence and its function as an agricultural holding.
The Ar Croaz wayside cross stands at the An Croaz crossroads in Berhet and is made of grey granite. The cross is carved on both sides: one side depicts Christ on the cross, the other the Virgin Mary. It probably dates from the second half of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century. The dating is therefore approximate; the two sides of the cross also show different religious motifs.
Explore Berhet by Bike
The “Rospez, Berhet, Quemperven – Boucle vélo No. 12” cycling loop is 24.2 kilometres long and of moderate difficulty. It passes through Berhet village centre. The route is signposted anticlockwise with large green-and-white cycling signs and smaller supplementary stickers. Its length, difficulty level and signage provide concrete points of reference for deciding whether to include the tour in your travel plans.
When choosing Berhet, you can pursue different interests: the chapel, church, manor house and wayside cross offer cultural and architectural history, while the 24.2-kilometre cycling loop is a clearly signposted cycling option. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Berhet, you can use this distinction to decide in advance what you want to focus on during your stay.
