Life-size steel figures from the Gallo-Roman era, a trail about dragonflies and paths along the Allier show the many different ways to explore Avermes. Nature, activity, history and culture offer different perspectives for planning your trip. Shape your stay around whether you are especially interested in nature, walks or a cultural program.
Nature and Outdoor Discoveries
Parc de la Rigolée is home to life-size steel statues depicting life and customs in the Gallo-Roman era. An interactive QR code game relates to the steel figures and adds a playful element of discovery to the historical perspective.
The park also has a City-Stade, a zip line and a play area for younger children. The age group for the play area is clearly specified; the City-Stade and zip line add to the park’s other recreational options.
Parc de la biodiversité is located in the center of Avermes. Its features include newly planted tree species, beehives, insect hotels, play equipment for children and sheep. Biodiversity features and play opportunities come together in this park.
At Site naturel de Chavennes, ecological restoration measures help preserve natural habitats, as well as fauna and flora. Signposted walking trails and information panels make the site accessible to the public. A discovery trail offers a playful way to learn about dragonflies. Chavennes therefore offers both nature-focused features and guidance along its paths and through its panels.
Trails, River and Church
PR 28: Circuit de Chavennes starts in the center of Avermes. The route passes the Hippodrome and the fairground, follows the banks of the Allier and goes through a network of small paths at Chavennes.
Promenade sur les berges de l’Allier also starts in Avermes and passes the Hippodrome as well as the riverbanks. Both descriptions therefore mention the Hippodrome and the Allier; PR 28 also includes the fairground and the small paths at Chavennes. The routes can be distinguished by the landmarks mentioned. Before setting out on PR 28, it is advisable to check the practical trail conditions, as these can change.
Église Notre-Dame de la Salette—the historic church of Avermes—dates from 1871 and was inaugurated in 1873. It stands above the Allier; from the Allier side, a large stone staircase with 55 steps leads up to the church.
Culture with Changing Focuses
For almost 30 years, the Association pour la Vie Culturelle Avermoise (AVCA) and the town of Avermes have organized “Les journées nature”: a week of conferences, debates and exhibitions on sustainable development and nature. The program is aimed at the general public as well as schoolchildren from across the agglomeration. Individual editions may vary; if you are interested in a particular edition, it is worth checking its program.
Isléa offers a cultural program each season that emphasizes discovery and diversity, with a strong focus on music. The “Club”-style evenings center on musical discoveries and a more intimate atmosphere; the program varies from season to season. In contrast to “Les journées nature,” the focus here is more strongly on music, while the nature week brings together conferences, debates and exhibitions.
