Thézac offers two clearly distinct themes for a stay: trails through the Coteaux du Quercy and vineyards, alongside Ferme de Coustète, which raises goats and sheep organically and makes its own cheese. This lets you focus on the landscape, walking or local food. The routes differ in length and theme; for a farm visit, opening hours determine when tours and tastings are available.

Quercy landscape and vineyards

The “Coteaux de Thézac et Montayral” landscape area is an extension of the Quercy Causses in Lot-et-Garonne and includes slopes, plateaus and rock outcrops. A plateau is an elevated, largely flat area; at a rock outcrop, the rock is exposed at the surface. These terms give the landscape name specific contours and help distinguish the broader natural area from individual routes.

Compare routes by length and theme

The “Thézac, balade entre Lot-et-Garonne et Lot” route starts in Thézac and is 9.5 kilometres long. It passes the Manoir de Trichot and follows its gravel access road; it also runs alongside dry-stone walls. A named manor house and the walls are therefore specific landmarks along this route.

The “Thézac, escapade dans la forêt du Verdus” route also starts in Thézac and measures 10.2 kilometres. The difference between the two route lengths is 0.7 kilometres. If you choose based first on distance, the route between Lot-et-Garonne and Lot is the shorter of the two options.

The “Thézac, balade dans les coteaux du Quercy” loop offers a different thematic approach: it passes through the “vins du Tsar” vineyards and uses some sections of the GR 652, the Way of St. James via Le Puy-en-Velay. Vineyards and sections of the pilgrimage route share this trail. If you are interested in both, you can consider them together when choosing.

Another option is the “Thézac, la légende du vin du Tsar” route. It is rated very easy and starts at the winery car park. In addition to the two routes with stated distances, it offers its own difficulty rating and a clearly named starting point.

Ferme de Coustète: cheese and visits

Ferme de Coustète in Thézac raises goats and sheep organically and makes cheese from their milk. This adds an agricultural dimension to a stay whose other focus is on trails, vineyards and landscape. Those particularly interested in cheesemaking will find a dedicated culinary point of interest here.

During opening hours, Ferme de Coustète offers free or guided tours, as well as tastings. Since these offers are tied to opening hours, you should confirm your visit time locally in advance if you plan to take a tour or attend a tasting.

Planning therefore involves two questions: which route suits your preferred distance or theme, and would you like to add a visit to the farm during opening hours? This lets you choose a focus for your stay without turning every option into a fixed itinerary.
