Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot lies on the Lot and offers several ways to spend your stay: walking trails, fishing opportunities, markets and historic buildings. If you are choosing a destination based on whether you want to explore the outdoors, fish or admire architecture, you can easily compare these highlights here. The Véloroute and the town’s architectural history also give your plans a clear direction.

Walking trails, cycling route and activities on the water

The municipality has established five walking trails ranging from 6 to 23 kilometres in length. All of these circular trails can be used by both walkers and mountain bikers; motorised vehicles are strictly prohibited on the municipal walking and mountain-biking trails. The range of distances helps you compare the length of the routes. Check local trail conditions before setting out. A Véloroute also passes through the centre of Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot.

At the fishing area, you can fish from the bank, from a boat or from a float tube; fishing regulations apply. The “Passion” fishing route on the Lot at Penne-Saint-Sylvestre is 6 kilometres long, and fishing there is subject to seasonal regulations. A leisure harbour in Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot offers fishing facilities; some services may vary seasonally. Boating is possible from the harbour at Penne-Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot, although availability may also vary by season. If you are planning a trip, check availability in advance. The grounds of Château Le Stelsia are open to the public free of charge.

Architectural history and distinctive details

The construction history of Château de Ferrassou spans the 14th to the 16th century. Two towers are classified as historic monuments, while the castle’s other older parts are listed as protected elements. The square tower contains a spiral staircase. The construction period, protected status and architectural detail offer different perspectives on the castle, without requiring one single era to explain the entire building.

The parish church of Saint-Sylvestre is a Neo-Romanesque building made of dressed limestone. Its projecting bell tower has four storeys and an octagonal masonry spire. At Saint-Aignan Church, by contrast, the location and the design of the vault stand out: the church and the former presbytery adjoining it to the west crown a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside. The church was built towards the end of the 16th century. Its capitals, corbels and vault keystones are carved with plant motifs.

Saint-Marcel also offers points of interest in architectural history. The church grounds and their surroundings, including the former cemetery, have been listed as a protected site since 3 October 1944. The west façade appears to date from the late 15th century; the pointed, moulded portal is also thought to possibly date from the mid-16th century. A large cross at the entrance to Rue du Lot dates from the 17th century and commemorates the end of a plague epidemic. In Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot, you can also see a polychrome wooden statue from the 14th century depicting Saint Peter.

Market days to help plan your stay

Markets are held in Place du Marché every Wednesday and Saturday morning. Local producers offer a wide range of fresh products from the surrounding countryside. If you are planning a visit to the market, these mornings make a useful guide for planning your stay; opening times may change on public holidays, so check the schedule in advance.
