Damazan combines Bastide history, photography and activities by the water. When planning your visit, you can focus on different things: the freely accessible Bastide, a museum covering photography and crafts, or the activities at Lac du Moulineau. Some visits are subject to specific conditions, such as booking guided tours in advance.

Bastide, Fountain and Circular Trail

The Bastide de Damazan can be visited freely. If you would like a guided tour, you must book in advance. The Château Comtal is still being restored and cannot be visited as such. As the restoration and access situation may change, check the latest information again before planning your visit.

The Fontaine des Anglais was rebuilt in 1731 and restored in 1998. It is accessible year-round; check the local access conditions before your trip. It is also a destination on Circular Trail No. 319, which leads from the central square to the fountains of Escoubet and the Fontaine des Anglais, following the canal’s shady banks along the way. Signposting and conditions may change, so it is worth checking the information before setting off.

Photography and Crafts

The Musée de l'Image et du son traces the history and development of photography, photographic equipment and video. The workshops complement these themes with hands-on activities: they include developing analogue photographs, papermaking, bookbinding and making objects on a lathe. This brings exhibition content and craft activities together. Access to the museum requires a reservation; this requirement and workshop availability may change. Check both for your planned visit date.

Canal and Leisure by the Lake

The Canal de Garonne runs through Damazan, where visitors can use the boating mooring. The grounds of Lac du Moulineau offer a different focus: they include an 8 ha lake, mini golf, tennis and volleyball. The site is also home to the only water-ski lift in the Lot-et-Garonne département. The canal and lake thus offer different ways to plan activities around the water.

Cascade Waterpark has numerous wakepark features for all skill levels, from beginners to pro riders. The season runs from mid-April to mid-October. Paddles can be rented for outings on Lac du Moulineau; availability may vary by season. If you are considering several water activities, it is worth taking the seasonal opening dates and current rental availability into account when planning.

Lac du Moulineau is also a category 2 fishing lake, with roach, pike, carp and perch. If you plan to fish, check the current regulations in advance, as they may change. Water sports and fishing are thus different activities available at the same lake.

Cycling and Nature Watching

The Vélodrome de Betbèze-Damazan is open to individuals, clubs, cycling schools and groups. Clubs affiliated with a governing body receive priority; the facility’s rules may also determine the terms of access. If you are planning a visit as a club or group, take this priority and the applicable facility rules into account.

The Observatoire de la faune et de la flore du Confluent consists of an artificial body of water and presents the history of the Garonne as well as the local animal and plant life. It complements the sporting activities with a focus on nature: the emphasis here is on the landscape and its wildlife, rather than on an activity on the water.
