In La Croix-Blanche, walking routes through varied landscapes meet the history of the Donjon de Fauguerolles. The Bernou route starts in the village and passes named heritage features. The Bézille route is described in terms of a steep valley, the Carretterie stream and shaded paths. The washhouse in Bézille adds another, smaller point of interest. When planning your trip, you can choose between exploring the landscape and discovering the history of the buildings.

Walking routes through varied landscapes

The Bernou route starts in La Croix-Blanche. In the north, it combines panoramic sections with wooded and shaded paths; in the south, it follows rural tracks. Exceptional viewpoints can be found along the entire route. The landscape is therefore shaped by more than a single view: the description highlights panoramic stretches as well as woodland, shade and the tracks in the southern section. If you pay attention to different landscape features while walking, this sequence offers a concrete point of reference when choosing a route.

The Bézille route passes through a steep valley where the small Carretterie stream flows. The paths in the hollow are mostly shaded. Another specific feature of the route is that it crosses the N21 twice. Compared with the Bernou route, the valley and its stream take centre stage here; the Bernou route is described in terms of its northern and southern sections and its viewpoints. These differences can help you distinguish the routes by their landscapes and features.

The keep and the village’s history

The surviving square Donjon de Fauguerolles is listed as a “Monument historique”. It consists of a square tower with three unvaulted levels; two of its corners are reinforced with buttresses. Its architecture appears to date from the late 13th or early 14th century. This dating remains an architectural estimate. The keep was built on the ancient Roman road that linked Agen, Eysses and Périgueux. Its form, structural features and historical context offer several points of interest if you are curious about the history of the village’s buildings.

On the Bernou route, you can discover the Tour Ronde; the route also passes the Château de Fauguerolles. This building is also known as the Donjon de Fauguerolles. The tower complex is therefore one of the heritage features associated with the route, while its architecture also offers a distinct focus for the village’s history.

The village was originally called Fauguerolles. The former village included the two parishes of Saint-Caprais-de-Boussorp and Saint-Pierre-de-la-Feuille. A smaller architectural remnant can be found in Bézille: a washhouse lies beneath a bridge on the road to Bézille. Along with the village’s former name and the parish names, it broadens the picture beyond the keep to include local history.

Choose the focus of your stay

If you are looking for a holiday rental in La Croix-Blanche, you can start by considering what you would like your stay to focus on: the history of the keep and the village’s development, or the landscape features of a walking route. The Bernou route combines named heritage features with varied landscapes; on the Bézille route, the valley, stream, shade and the two crossings of the N21 take centre stage. This allows you to choose according to your interests.
