Saint-Hilaire-De-Lusignan brings together two churches listed as historic monuments, the Lusignan-Grand panoramic route and Garonne en Fête. The churches have different architectural features: the Église de Saint-Hilaire has a polygonal apse and a single-nave hall, while the Église de Luzignan has a crypt with frescoes. The area also offers views of the valley and hills, as well as an annual event on the Garonne. When planning your trip, you can decide whether architecture, landscape or a festival date will shape your stay.

Churches and architectural features

The Église de Saint-Hilaire is located in Saint-Hilaire-de-Lusignan and is listed as a historic monument; the decree is dated January 7, 1926. It dates from the 12th century and has a polygonal apse and a single-nave hall with two bays. A single-nave hall has no side aisles; the two bays divide the space lengthwise. The church appears to have been built partly on the foundations of ancient buildings. Parts of its walls are faced with small-dressed-stone masonry.

The Église de Luzignan is located in Saint-Hilaire-de-Lusignan, formerly the commune of Lusignan-Grand. It is also listed as a historic monument; the decree is dated June 20, 1950. Its Romanesque choir has a half-dome vault, and its two-bay hall has a rib vault. The church also contains a crypt with frescoes of the Lusignans.

Several features clearly distinguish the architectural styles: Saint-Hilaire combines a polygonal apse with a single-nave hall, while Luzignan stands out for its Romanesque half-dome choir, rib-vaulted hall and crypt with frescoes. The churches can therefore be distinguished by their floor plans, vaults and furnishings. The dates serve different purposes: the 12th century refers to the stated construction period of Saint-Hilaire, while the 1926 and 1950 decrees mark the churches’ listings as historic monuments.

Lusignan-Grand panoramic route

The Lusignan-Grand panoramic route starts in Saint-Hilaire-de-Lusignan and offers views of the Garonne Valley and the hills of Gascony. It is marked in yellow. As a landscape highlight, the route differs from the churches’ architectural focus: here, the valley and hills take center stage. Check the route details before setting out, as trail markings may change. If the route is central to your trip, include this check in your planning.

Garonne en Fête

Garonne en Fête is an annual event on the Garonne. The tenth edition was planned for Saturday, August 22, 2026. For this edition, Saint-Hilaire-de-Lusignan invited visitors to spend a day at a natural site on the banks of the Garonne. If you want the festival to determine your travel dates, check the dates of the relevant edition before planning your trip.
