Préchacq-Les-Bains combines thermal waters and spa architecture with rural heritage, as well as routes through the forest and along a river. When choosing a stay, you can focus on the thermal baths, the Trou de Madame, or a hiking or mountain biking route. The routes described vary in activity, length and scenery, offering different ways to shape your stay.

Thermal Waters, Architecture and Springs

In Préchacq-Les-Bains, sulfate-calcium thermal water emerges at 60°C. The thermal baths feature typical Basque-Landes architecture, with half-timbered façades and gently sloping roofs. Half-timbering combines visible wooden beams with infill wall panels, giving the baths a distinctive architectural character alongside their thermal features. The name describes the water’s composition; the temperature figure indicates how warm it is.

The thermal baths are located in a Natura 2000 area. Another spring site is the Trou de Madame: this hypothermal spring has a temperature of about 30°C. The thermal water that emerges is around 30 degrees warmer, at 60°C. Guided tours at the Trou de Madame are offered in French.

The Espace Forme offers physical and aquatic activities. A sports coach leads some activities, while others are open for independent use. Which activities are available may depend on the spa treatment or program you choose.

Trails and Rural Heritage

The “Les balades des 3 lavoirs” route is a marked 6.3 km hiking trail, with a 13 km alternative. Préchacq-Les-Bains has three washhouses, renovated by the L’Avoir association. The longer alternative passes a palombière built in an oak tree, the thermal baths and the Trou de Madame.

Route 17.16 “Gousse – Préchacq-Les-Bains” is 5 km long and designated for hiking and mountain biking. Another route starts in Préchacq-Les-Bains and leads to the confluence of the Louts and Adour rivers. It runs along the banks of the Louts and through the Préchacq-Les-Bains forest; along the way, it crosses wooden walkways and offers panoramic views.

By listed distance, the 13 km alternative is slightly more than twice as long as the 6.3 km trail; at 5 km, Route 17.16 is the shortest of the three options with stated distances. Route 17.16 is designated for hiking and mountain biking, while “Les balades des 3 lavoirs” is marked as a hiking trail. The confluence route can be identified by its landscape: riverbanks, forest, wooden walkways and panoramic views.

Check current trail conditions before setting out. Also confirm the availability of a guided tour at the Trou de Madame before visiting; tours are offered in French.
