Half-timbered houses in the town centre and outlying areas, a weekly market, cycling connections and green spaces give a stay in Linxe a variety of highlights. You can combine the town’s character and market day with routes and gardens. When planning, it is worth keeping the relevant conditions in mind: the market takes place on set days of the week, the Jardin Marguerite is open by appointment only, and the Château Belle Époque cannot be visited.
Townscape and weekly market
Linxe’s weekly market takes place on Tuesdays and Fridays in the market halls at Place des Muletiers. As market hours may change seasonally, check the date before your visit.
Notable half-timbered houses with wattle and daub infill have been preserved both in the town centre and in the outlying areas. So you need not limit your architectural sightseeing to the centre: houses of this kind can also be found beyond it. Half-timbering and wattle and daub give the townscape an architectural character distinct from its green spaces and routes.
Cycling routes and destinations
The Lo Camin de Hè cycling route runs through Linxe and connects Taller, via Castets in the Landes département, with Saint-Girons beach. The cycle path from Linxe leads to Lette Blanche beach and towards Castets and Taller. Linxe also has a bicycle station.
The different beach names are useful when choosing a destination: Saint-Girons is part of the Lo Camin de Hè connection, while Lette Blanche is the destination of the cycle path from Linxe. This makes it easy to distinguish the two route connections without combining them into a single route.
Circular walks and outdoor activities
A renovated fitness trail offers a place for recreation and exercise in Linxe. The Circuit du Moulin de Binaou, by contrast, is described as a green circular route through meadows, gardens, streams, ponds, broadleaf woodland and pine forest. It leads to the Airial de Binaou, with old barns and homes characteristic of the Landes airials. The circular route thus combines landscape features with a specific link to the region’s traditional architecture.
Parks and gardens
The Parc municipal Dufau covers two hectares and combines oak and pine trees with wooden sculptures along its paths. Its facilities include playgrounds, picnic tables, a boules court, fitness equipment and lawns. The park’s trees and sculptures, as well as its specific recreational facilities, are all highlights.
The Jardin Marguerite offers a different focus: alongside its landscaped plantings, it features a vegetable garden with heirloom varieties, a pond and an avenue of citrus trees. From April to October, the garden is open by prior appointment only. Check the current appointment arrangements before your visit. Unlike the Parc municipal Dufau, a visit here must be arranged in advance.
A historic estate with restricted access
The Château Belle Époque is an 18th-century estate in a four-hectare park. It cannot be visited, so do not plan it as a stop on your trip. Instead, choose Linxe as a place to stay based on the activities actually available: the market and half-timbered houses, cycling connections, circular routes, or green spaces with their different conditions.
