Arengosse brings together church architecture and traces of local history with saffron cultivation and a forest-shaped landscape. This lets you focus on what interests you, rather than squeezing the different themes into a rigid itinerary.

Church and stained-glass windows

The parish church of Notre-Dame was completely rebuilt in 1893–1894. Its furnishings include a set of 18 stained-glass windows, created in 1894 by Bordeaux glass artist Gustave-Pierre Dagrant. Architectural history and a specifically dated artistic feature therefore sit side by side: the rebuilding spanned two years, while the windows are associated with a single year and a named glass artist. Anyone interested in architecture and stained glass will find two distinct aspects of the same church here.

Local history at the Parc des Sept Eaux

The Parc des Sept Eaux is in the centre of Arengosse. Prehistoric and Gallo-Roman objects that have been found are exhibited there. A traditional outbuilding from an airial was also moved to the centre of the village and rebuilt in the Parc des 7 eaux. In this area, finds from several early periods sit alongside a reconstructed historic building—two different ways to explore local history.

The sheepfold, with its seven roof sections, houses the local media library. The number of roof sections explains the name of the Parc des 7 eaux. The walking tour of Arengosse also includes a historic washhouse. A wooden kiosk stands on the village square, shaded by plane trees; it adds another distinct point of interest connected with the village square.

Forest and saffron

The municipal forest of Arengosse covers 553 hectares and consists of 99 percent planted maritime pines. Its size and the high proportion of maritime pines give the landscape a distinct forest character, without reducing the forest to a single route. For a stay focused on landscape and nature, this provides another point of interest alongside the architectural and local history.

Safran’gòssa has been growing saffron in Arengosse without chemical inputs since 2017. Its offerings include a forest-based treasure hunt about saffron, open to everyone. Before travelling, check whether booking is required and whether places are available. Safran’gòssa offers saffron on its own as well as saffron products made with organic and/or locally sourced ingredients; availability may vary. Cultivation, the activity and the products are different ways to explore saffron from Arengosse.

Walking route and travel

The “Circuit des sources en Pays Morcenais Arengosse l’Agneau Pascal” is 12 kilometres long. If you would like to include it in your plans, check local access conditions before travelling. The distance alone does not determine a mode of transport or walking time.

A TER train serves Arengosse; Morcenx and Mont-de-Marsan are named as terminal stations. Check the current timetable before travelling.
