Sigalens offers several distinct reasons to stay: an annual pilgrimage, architectural landmarks from different periods, and Lac des 3 Rives with a circular walking path. This combination is useful when planning a trip, as religious tradition, historic architecture and time outdoors offer different focuses. You can therefore decide first whether a particular date, the churches and their history, or a walk by the lake should be the deciding factor.

Churches and architectural traces

In the town centre stands Église St Pierre, the newest of Sigalens’ churches. Le Vieux Grenier offers a different perspective: it was dismantled and faithfully rebuilt on Place des Anciens Combattants. Saint-Martin de Montclaris brings together several historical perspectives. The former church was added to the supplementary list of historic monuments on 2 July 1987. The ruins are Gothic and form part of the history of rural church architecture in the Midi; above all, wall paintings have been preserved in the choir. Thus, the architectural form of the ruins and the surviving paintings stand side by side as two distinct historical features. A double-sided 16th-century cross stands in the cemetery of Notre-Dame d'Aillas-le-Vieux.

La Fontaine Miraculeuse and its pilgrimage

The present-day La Fontaine Miraculeuse dates from 1932. It contains a ceramic piece signed by the artist Mazutti, depicting the Virgin and Child. The fountain thus combines a dated structure with a signed work featuring a religious subject. The pilgrimage takes place each year on 8 September or the nearest Sunday. It includes a mass and a procession in honour of Notre Dame. As the specific arrangements may vary, check the current programme before visiting.

Walk, picnic and fishing by the lake

A path runs around Lac des 3 Rives and is suitable for a family walk. Check local conditions before setting out. Picnic tables are available under the trees; check their availability locally. Fishing is also possible at the lake, subject to any local rules and permits. This means the same body of water offers a walking circuit, a place to picnic and an opportunity to fish. Unlike the historic sites, the lake is the part of the stay focused on walking, picnicking and fishing.

A broader geographical setting

The Giovanni Masutti tourist circuit covers 23 communes in southern Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne. Its geographical scale differs from the path around Lac des 3 Rives: here, a route crossing several communes contrasts with a circuit around a lake. If you include the circuit in your trip plans, check its current route, as the route details may change.
