Saint-Léon-Sur-Vézère lies on the Vézère and is surrounded by cliffs and forests. Attractions range from buildings dating back several centuries to guided experiences and circular trails of varying lengths. When planning your trip, you can give different weight to culture, scenery and outdoor activities; the time of year also matters for concerts, the market and visitor attractions.

Church architecture and historic sites

The choir and transept arms of the Église Saint-Léonce, dating from the 12th century, have been preserved. Two apses flank the ambulatory. During the summer season, the church hosts concerts as part of the Festival du Périgord Noir. If you would like to plan your trip around a concert, check the current dates in advance.

The Donjon, Manoir et Jardin de la Salle complex includes a seigneurial tower from the 12th century and a manor house from the 15th century. A rampart walk offers views of the village. The site thus brings together architectural features from different centuries and a direct view of the village. The Château de Clérans in the village dates from the 16th century, is privately owned and is not open to visitors. If you plan to include it in your itinerary, check its access status in advance.

Scenery and trails

The Vézère and the surrounding cliffs and forests frame the landscape. From the Côte de Jor viewpoint, you can see across the Vézère Valley. This offers a distinct reason to take in the scenery, separate from the village’s architectural details.

Two circular routes differ considerably in length. The easy Boucle de Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère is 3.37 kilometres long and passes through the village centre and surrounding countryside. The Boucle du Roc starts in the village, is 14.95 kilometres long and follows the former towpath along the Vézère for most of its route. This gives you a choice between a shorter circuit through the village and its surroundings and a longer route by the river. Check trail conditions locally before setting out.

Guided and interactive experiences

Le Conquil offers guided tours of rock shelters and a medieval dovecote. The programme also includes themed nighttime experiences, such as Apéro-Troglo. Le Secret du Conquil has a different focus: it is an immersive puzzle game set in the cliff face. When choosing between a tour, a nighttime programme and a puzzle game, you can consider these as distinct types of experience rather than equivalent attractions.

Another activity is the Parcours aventure – Préhistobranche, which features a zip line more than 200 metres long. If you would like to include these experiences in your plans, check the current visitor attractions before your trip.

Summer concerts and regional produce

Events in the area can also influence your choice of travel dates. Concerts at the Église Saint-Léonce take place during the summer season, while the Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère market is a recurring seasonal event. Held at the nautical landing stage, it brings together local producers and offers visitors the chance to sample regional products. Check the current concert and market dates in advance. This way, you can plan your stay around the attractions that interest you most.
