Gundolsheim lies on the Lauch in a fertile plain. The village offers a variety of discoveries: the Église Sainte-Agathe with its historic tower, two stepped-gable houses near the church, and a puzzle walk through the village. Near Gundolsheim, a cycling loop also follows the Lauch across the plain, offering views of the vineyards between woodland and open countryside. During asparagus season, direct sales and a farm shop selling local farm products are additional options. When planning your visit, you can choose between architectural history, an activity in the village, the landscape and seasonal shopping.

The Lauch, the Plain and a Cycling Loop

Le paysage Ă  bicyclette is a cycling loop near Gundolsheim. It follows the Lauch across the plain and offers views of the vineyards between woodland and open countryside. This route focuses on the landscape, while the Balade ludique Ă  Gundolsheim revolves around questions and puzzles in the village. The two activities offer different experiences: a ride through the landscape or a walk that explores the village through challenges.

The Church and Older Houses

The present-day Église Sainte-Agathe was rebuilt in 1834, with the older tower preserved. The bell tower dates from the 11th century and is made of pink sandstone. It is protected as a historic monument; the church itself is partially protected as a historic monument. The church building thus brings together two distinct periods: the old tower and the 1834 reconstruction of the church.

Two stepped-gable houses dating from the 16th century still stand near the church. The term “stepped gable” refers to the gable’s staircase-like shape. Along with the church, the houses offer another glimpse of the village’s historic buildings. Architecture enthusiasts can therefore find an example of older residential buildings in Gundolsheim, in addition to the history of the church.

A Puzzle Walk Through the Village

The Balade ludique Ă  Gundolsheim is a one-hour walk through the village featuring questions and puzzles. There are three versions for children aged 4 to 12 and for the whole family. The one-hour duration gives the activity a clear time frame; the questions and puzzles make it a different way to explore the village than the cycling loop. If you are planning a stay, you can choose between a village activity with a set duration and a route focused on the landscape.

Buy Seasonal Asparagus

During asparagus season, from mid-April to mid-June, Asperges Frick runs a farm shop in Gundolsheim. It sells white and green Alsatian asparagus as well as other local farm products. During the season, from mid-April to early June, Nicolas Fuchs sells asparagus directly in Gundolsheim. The two periods overlap, but they are not the same length: the farm shop’s stated season runs until mid-June, while Nicolas Fuchs’s direct sales run until early June. If asparagus is a factor in choosing when to travel, check availability before setting out.
