Twelve trails meet at the Col de la Perheux. Wildersbach adds a cultural dimension: a Protestant heritage trail leads to the Lutheran church, whose construction history can be clearly summarized with two dates. This offers different ways to plan your trip—whether you prefer a hike along the heights or a closer look at the church and local history.

Hiking trails at the Col de la Perheux

La Perheux is a natural high pasture. The Ferme Auberge de la Perheux is located at an elevation of 680 m at the Col de la Perheux, near numerous hiking trails; from there, panoramic views stretch across the valley. Twelve trails converge at the pass, a useful point of reference for anyone who wants to spend time hiking. The landscape and the density of trails offer different ways to orient yourself: the high pasture conveys the character of La Perheux, while the trails at the Col bring together a range of routes.

The C15 hiking trail, “Around the Col de la Perheux,” starts in Rothau. This moderately difficult half-day hike is listed as 11 km long with 350 m of elevation gain. On the C15, a 2.5 km gently ascending section crosses the heights of Wildersbach to the Abri du Chenôt. These two sets of figures describe different scales: 11 km and 350 m of elevation gain characterize the half-day hike, while 2.5 km refers to the trail section leading to the Abri. This makes it possible to distinguish the full route from this specific part of the trail.

The trail markers along the C15 are also described precisely: 300 m after turning off behind the “Wildersbach” sign, the trail reaches the Ferme Auberge de la Perheux; another 300 m later, it leads to the Col de la Perheux. This sequence complements the distance and elevation details with directions based on named landmarks.

The church and traces of local history

The Protestant heritage trail follows a small mountain road to the Lutheran church of Wildersbach on Rue de l’Église. The present church was built in 1862; its tower porch was added in 1892. The original altar, pulpit and pews have all been preserved in the church interior. The trail therefore focuses both on the building’s history and its surviving furnishings: the two dates show the sequence of construction, while the three items listed have been preserved as original features.

Another trace of local history lies in the lower part of Wildersbach. There, the base of the former chimney of the heating plant at the production building of Société Claude Frêres has been preserved. It is a structural remnant of the industrial activity associated with the production building. The church and chimney base thus offer two different perspectives on local history: sacred architecture with preserved furnishings and evidence of former production.

La Perheux is also associated with history: in the Middle Ages, it was a place of execution for people persecuted as witches. The Marches contées explore five centuries of history and the legends of the Ban de la Roche; the program is for 2026. If you would like to include one of these storytelling hikes in your plans, check the event dates before you travel.

When deciding what you want your trip to focus on, there are two distinct options: the C15, with its designated half-day hike and specific trail sections, or the historical landmarks in Wildersbach. The church combines a heritage trail with a dated construction history; the chimney base adds a preserved industrial relic to this picture.
