A cultural centre, historic buildings and routes of varying lengths offer different ways to shape a stay in Ostwald. You can plan around specific interests: performing arts, architectural history, regional cuisine or outdoor activity.
Cultural programme and workshops
Le Point d’Eau in Ostwald is a multidisciplinary cultural centre featuring theatre, comedy, circus, dance and music, as well as events for young audiences. It presents major international performances alongside local productions. Its two venues have seating for 240 and 550 people, respectively. When choosing an event, both the type of performance and the size of the venue can help guide your decision.
Numerous workshops in artistic practice take place during the season. These include hip-hop and theatre; circus workshops and activities in other disciplines related to the programme are offered occasionally. Workshop offerings vary by season. If a workshop is central to your visit, check which dates fall within your travel dates.
Architectural history and stained glass
The Château in Ostwald was probably rebuilt in the 17th century and was extended and remodelled in 1891. The chapel in Ostwald dates from the 13th century, making it older than the Château’s presumed reconstruction. Its four stained-glass windows from the time of its construction are Gothic in style and depict Christ, the Virgin Mary, Saint Oswald and a donor. These are distinct historical details: several building phases shape the Château’s chronology, while the chapel’s early date is complemented by specific window depictions.
Routes by length and features
Vitaboucle No. 19 Ostwald is 9.5 kilometres long; check the route information before setting out, as it may be revised. The circular route around the Gerig pond is a 12-kilometre walking loop that crosses the canal bridge. At 12 kilometres, this loop is 2.5 kilometres longer than the Vitaboucle. The pond and canal bridge are additional, specifically named features of the route. Also check the conditions on the loop before setting out.
The fitness trail is 2.8 kilometres long, making it shorter than the other two routes. It runs over flat, soft, shaded ground and is suitable for running and walking. The trail has 25 exercise stations. The omnisports area on Quai Olida also includes fishponds.
Regional cuisine
Winstub de l’Ile and L’asszimmer at Château de l’Ile serve regional dishes reinterpreted by head chef Yannick Mattern. This adds a culinary focus to the cultural and active pursuits. Restaurant details may change with future operators or menus; if dining is part of your plans, check the current offering in advance.
