Explore Seinäjoki through a range of themes: Alvar Aalto’s architecture, the history of South Ostrobothnia, and trails through forests and landscapes. When choosing a hotel, you can first consider whether culture, architecture or nature will shape your stay. The sights and trails each offer their own highlights.
Aalto Architecture and City History
Designed by Alvar Aalto, the Administrative and Cultural Centre is a unique architectural ensemble of global significance. The Aalto Centre comprises six buildings and Kansalaistori, completed in 1988. The centre is part of the Aalto Works UNESCO World Heritage ensemble. On a guided tour, participants visit buildings in the centre: Lakeuden Risti, Apila Library, the City Theatre and Aalto Library each illustrate Aalto’s architectural solutions and the history associated with them in their own way.
The Museum of South Ostrobothnia in Törnävä focuses on the history of the region and Seinäjoki. Museum tours can also include a visit to Törnävä Manor; the tours are included in the museum admission price. A guided tour of Törnävä crosses the manor’s wooded grounds to Seinäjoki’s former iron and gunpowder mills, as well as to a traditional farmhouse that presents the rural culture of South Ostrobothnia. The manor park follows a 19th-century park plan. Ruutipuisto, established as a nature reserve in 1948, lies north of the island in the park.
The annual events programme at Törnävä Manor includes four major museum events: Pääsiäisrieha, the summer season opening celebrations, Östermyra Days and Joulun tuntu. If you’re planning your trip around an event, you can check the dates in advance.

Nature Trails with Different Highlights
The Kyrkösjärven kierros circular trail runs around Kyrkösjärvi in Seinäjoki. It follows well-maintained gravel paths through the forest and along the lakeside dam. The Oravapolku nature trail offers something different: designed for children, this 650-metre accessible trail passes, among other things, a small toy museum, a barefoot path and a health forest.
The Jouppilanvuori Experience Trail is also illuminated and accessible. Its features include Tukikohta Vuori, a historic shelter, a military-style obstacle course and the Aarnikotka hut. There is also a shelter for photographing birds and wildlife, a bat shelter, a birdhouse gallery and poetry boards. The trail’s many different features make it a thematic alternative to trails whose descriptions focus mainly on forests, lakes or geology.
Kivipuisto features eight geological stations on the grounds of the Käpälikkö Nature Centre. It also has the 700-metre accessible Kivipolku, with 22 different geological stations. The Children’s Squirrel Trail in Kyrkösjärvi Recreation Park, meanwhile, focuses on nature and playful discoveries. It features a small museum, a fairytale hay barn, tactile mushrooms, a birdhouse park and nature-inspired artworks; the story of Nyyrikki is also told there. For a view over the city, the popular Experience Steps lead to a viewpoint overlooking Seinäjoki.
