The church, heroes’ cemetery, collections, harbor and trails give a stay in Kyyjärvi several distinct focal points. If you want to choose where to go based on specific interests, you can explore church history and remembrance, collections on different themes, and activities on the water and along trails. There are also clear options for outdoor activities: the harbor and swimming beach serve different purposes, and the two cycling routes have different surfaces.

Church and remembrance

Kyyjärvi Church was consecrated on December 12, 1953. The separate bell tower was completed in 1954. The consecration and completion therefore took place in consecutive years, but refer to different events. Kyyjärvi’s heroes’ cemetery is the burial place of 73 fallen soldiers from the Winter War and the Continuation War. The church and heroes’ cemetery thus draw attention to two historical subjects: the consecration of the church and remembrance of those who fell in these two wars.

Collections with different focuses

Honkalehdon Kievari was once a post inn. Among other things, old tools, kitchen utensils, children’s toys and handicrafts have been gathered there. The Kyyjärvi Local Heritage Museum has a different collection focus, with old agricultural and hunting-related items. The collections therefore differ in their subject matter: at the Kievari, the range extends from household items to handicrafts, while agriculture and hunting are the main focus at the Local Heritage Museum. Visits to the Kyyjärvi Local Heritage Museum are by appointment. Arrange your visit in advance.

Marina and swimming beach

Kyyjärvi Marina has 22 berths for small boats. Larger boats can also be launched using a slipway. Kallioranta is a public swimming beach at the Kyyjärvi Camping campground. The distinction is useful when considering the water-based facilities: the marina offers berths and a slipway, while Kallioranta is designated as a public swimming beach.

Park and trails

Near Kyyjärvi’s school center, the activity park offers a range of opportunities for exercise for all age groups. Its pavilion is suitable as a rest stop in the rain. The park thus combines exercise with a practical place to take a break, which is also useful in wet weather.

The surface is an important point of comparison for the cycling routes: the Kyyjärvi cycling loop runs partly on gravel roads, while the Tuliharju cycling loop is paved. The Harsunkangas–Oikari network of multi-use trails connects the landscapes of Harsunkangas and Oikari in Kyyjärvi. It is about 10 kilometers long each way. When planning the distance, note that this approximate figure is for one direction and does not represent the total round-trip distance.

Choose what to focus on during your stay

The different themes and trail features provide a practical basis for planning, without requiring you to focus your stay on just one activity.
