Around Gedsted, the trails and landscape offer a variety of experiences. At Paradiset, the focus is on views, geological traces, and historical features. There is also the marked Lerkenfeldt Ă…dal Trail, a route to the fjord at the mouth of the Lerkenfeldt Ă…, and opportunities for cycling. If you are looking for accommodation, you can plan your stay around whether you would rather walk near Paradiset, follow a marked route, or explore by bike.

Hiking near Paradiset and the Lerkenfeldt Ă…

The path at Paradiset is on private property and open to pedestrians; temporary closures during hunting may apply. Check that the path is accessible before setting out. The Paradiset routes start at a rest area on the Viborg-Løgstør road. The nearest bus stop is Vesterbro in Gedsted; from there, it is about a 25-minute walk to the hiking routes’ starting point. One section of this walk runs alongside a busy road. If you continue on foot from the bus stop, take this section into account when planning your journey.

The Lerkenfeldt Ă…dal Trail is a marked circular route of about 10 km that includes Gedsted. A route near Paradiset leads to the fjord at the mouth of the Lerkenfeldt Ă…. The Ă…dal Trail therefore provides guidance on the circular route and its approximate length, while the Paradiset route focuses on the fjord as its destination. To choose between them, consider whether you prefer a marked circular route or a path to the river mouth.

Views, landscape, and birdlife

From the viewpoint at Paradiset, you can see across Louns Bredning to the Louns Peninsula and Alstrup Church, as well as to Salling and Lundø. The meadow at Paradiset facing Louns Bredning is raised seabed dating from the Stone Age. The shallow water in Louns Bredning attracts many waders and waterbirds. The landscape can therefore be viewed from three perspectives: as a sweeping vista across the fjord and peninsulas, as a geological feature with a history of formation, and as a natural habitat where shallow water attracts waders and waterbirds.

Historical traces and cycling routes

Paradiset also has traces of different periods. The sunken lane was used in the past to drive livestock to the meadow. Remains of Second World War trenches are visible on the cliff at Paradiset. This contrast takes you from agricultural use of the landscape to military traces from the 20th century. Both features add a historical perspective on the area to the natural landscape.

The Lerkenfeld cycling route can start in Gedsted. Cycle Route 12 runs from Gedsted across the Lerkenfeld stream towards Gl. Ullits. The difference is practical: Gedsted is a possible starting point for the first ride, while the stream crossing and direction provide specific reference points for Route 12. Cyclists can therefore use either Gedsted as a possible starting point or the direction towards Gl. Ullits as a planning reference.
