A stay in Lild Strand can be planned around different interests: observing nature, hiking, cycling or learning about local coastal and church history. Hiking options range from a loop of about 40 minutes to a longer tour of approximately two hours. When planning your time, you can therefore take into account not only the destinations but also the route length and duration.
Nature and landscapes around Lild Strand
The Bulbjerg-Troldsting-Lild Strand Dark Sky Park covers the areas of Bulbjerg-Troldsting-Lild Strand and extends over 12.54 square kilometres. There are opportunities for wildlife observation, photography and hiking. To the southwest of Lild Strand, areas form part of Natura 2000 site No. 44, “Lild Strand and Lild Strandkær”. Its conservation basis includes 11 habitat types, with dune habitats being the most important.
The heathland areas southwest of Lild Strand also have a special designation: designated quiet zones lie between Redningsvejen and the forest areas, particularly supporting the local breeding birds. Green woodpeckers and great spotted woodpeckers are especially often seen among the older trees in Lild Klitplantage. Lild Strandkær is a natural, elongated dune lake near Lildstrand, running parallel to the coastline. These landscape features offer different ways to enjoy nature observation and walks.
Compare hikes and routes
The short Sansevandring hike near Lildstrand starts at the car park by the landing site. It follows Strandkærvej past the church and through the dunes to the beach; the return route follows the beach back to the landing site. Allow about 40 minutes, depending on your breaks and how many stones you collect. A longer hike runs from Lildstrand to Bulbjerg and back along the beach; it is listed as taking about two hours.
The white hiking trail starts at the car park at Strandvejen/Østvejen and leads to the observation tower. From Lild Strand, you can also walk to the dog forest in Lild Klitplantage. For cyclists, National Cycle Route No. 1, Vestkyststien, runs through Lild and Vester Thorup Klitplantage.
Two other routes are easy to distinguish by their length and course. The blue route starts at the car park on Gl. Aalborgvej, passes through forest, meadow, fen and heath, and is 3 kilometres long. The yellow route starts at the car park on Strandvejen near Rotbølgård. It is also 3 kilometres long, but runs through completely flat terrain. If a flat profile is important to you, this difference is more useful when choosing than the fact that the routes are the same length.
Church, coastal boat and local offerings
Lild Strand Church is located in a former boathouse for the rescue boat, built in 1883. The building was first consecrated as a church on 2 April 1950. The church has a detached bell frame with an old bell from Lild Church. Arent Kleiman cast it in Lübeck in 1674. The building’s history and the bell give the place a distinctive cultural and historical dimension.
The coastal boat Skarreklit is moored at the landing site in Lild Strand. Those interested in creative activities will find a gallery, courses and workshops at Kreativitetshuset in Strandkanten, Lildstrand. Course times may change; check the current programme before your visit. Lildstrand Røgeri sells fresh and smoked fish throughout the year; check the latest information about sales in advance.
Deep-sea fishing is available through membership of Lildstrand Bådelaug, together with like-minded people who know the sea. Check the membership requirements before taking part. This will help you distinguish when planning which activities can be combined directly with a walk or a bike ride and which require separate participation conditions.
