Holme combines a hilly moraine landscape with a connection to the Kattegat coast; the surrounding area also offers nature information and cultural history. This provides different points of focus when planning a trip: the coast, the terrain, views and specific historic sites.

Moraine landscape and views

Holme was built on rounded moraine hills just over 30 metres high at the eastern end of the depression of Stubbe Sø. The landscape around Holme is full of contrasts and highly varied, offering a rich landscape experience. The distinctive moraine hill Jernhatten near Arnakke is protected; from there, the view extends far across the sea to the island of Hjelm. The village of Holme and the viewpoint offer two different perspectives on the landscape.

Beach and walking route

The 2021 bathing water profile locates Holme Strand on the Kattegat along Dianavej; it also lists access routes from Holme: the beach can be reached via Baunehøjvej or Arielvej. As this access information comes from the 2021 profile, it is advisable to check current local notices before planning a beach visit.

The walk on Jernhatten is 1.5 kilometres long and starts at the car park at Havmøllevej 16. The Jernhatten Rundt circular walk reaches the beach via purpose-built steps. The information available for planning therefore covers different things: the length and starting point refer to the walk, while the steps provide beach access on the circular route. This lets you decide whether a specific route length or access to the beach along the route matters most to you.

Nature information and cultural history

A publicly accessible nature information room is located in the former horse stable at Havmøllen. Maps and information boards cover the nature and marine life of the surrounding area. Visitor access may vary with operating arrangements; check in advance whether a visit is possible. Havmøllen also has a café and farm shop. Their opening arrangements may also change, so it is helpful to check for current information before visiting.

Havmøllegården is a site of great cultural and historical significance in the area around Holme. Also in the area, Havmøllen Skanse was built by the Danish military in 1810 to defend against English gunboats during the Gunboat War period of 1807 to 1814.

Holme as a starting point for finding accommodation

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose what to focus on in Holme: the Kattegat beach, the hilly landscape, a walk on Jernhatten or nearby cultural and historical sites each offer a different emphasis. Consider whether the coast, nature information and views, or history will matter most during your stay.
