Around Guldforhoved, heathland, moor and forest sit alongside opportunities for hiking and cycling. When choosing accommodation for a nature getaway, it helps to start by distinguishing between two options: are you more interested in individual destinations nearby or in a longer route? The planning area is relatively flat and lies slightly elevated above a former wetland. Geologically, it is situated on a heathland sand plain with geest islands dating from the penultimate ice age.
Heathland, moor and forest
Southeast of Guldforhoved, the 34 km² Gludsted Plantation is nearby. It includes coniferous forest, heathland and moors. Guldforhoved Forest lies immediately west of the plantation. The forest was established in 1992 through the purchase and afforestation of agricultural land. In the long term, Guldforhoved Forest is intended to develop into a forest type featuring oak, lime and beech.
The Guldforhoved planning area contains a protected heathland area dominated by heather. At its centre is a small, wetter depression with valuable, nutrient-sensitive wetland species such as cross-leaved heath, bristle club-rush and bottle sedge. The small pool in the planning area's moor consists of an excavated channel around an island. A protected watercourse flows into this pool from the east; a protected lake is also among the natural habitat types in the area surrounding the planning area. For those interested in natural history, the plants in the wet depression, the shape of the pool and the protected waters are specific points of interest.
Floddalen near Guldforhoved is a natural area protected under Section 3 and designated as a recreational area.
Route options nearby
Nearby, the 67 km Hjortestien hiking and cycling route runs through the southern part of Gludsted Plantation. Banedammen can be reached on foot via Den Skæve Bane or by bicycle along the route. On the nearby R23 Den Skæve Bane route, the surface alternates between gravel and asphalt. The Den Skæve Bane route follows a former railway line for the most part and crosses several old railway bridges.
