Kibæk offers a variety of ways to plan your stay: Deep Forest Art Land brings together contemporary art, nature and people; there are also cultural activities, green spaces for recreation and various walking trails. You can focus on outdoor art, the town’s cultural life or exploring on foot.
Art and Culture in Kibæk
Deep Forest Art Land is a vibrant meeting place for contemporary art, nature and people. A circular trail of about 4.5 kilometres leads back to the starting point and can be divided into two sections. This means you can plan to walk the entire route or just parts of it. The artistic programme may evolve; if a particular programme item is important to you, check the current offering in advance.
Alhuset, the cultural centre in Kibæk, offers a wide range of activities: these include singing, music, dance and games, as well as creative workshops, talks, gatherings and communal meals. Its varied formats make Alhuset a place for different kinds of cultural encounters, from creative participation to sharing a meal.
Kibæk Mølle is located on the edge of Kibæk and is one of the town’s cultural centres. A green natural area with lakes and trails connects the Mølle with Kibæk Krydsfelt and the recreational areas at Kibæk’s green heart. The Vonå also shapes the local landscape: it runs through Kibæk in a green corridor and, together with Harreskov Plantage, forms one of the town’s recreational areas. If you include culture and landscape in your plans, you’ll find a variety of places and themes here rather than just a single attraction.
Explore Heathland and Trails
Hede ved Kibæk is a 66-hectare woodland and heathland area managed through year-round extensive cattle grazing. Management practices may change. You may enter the entire enclosed heathland area, including the private section; please observe the conditions on site.
The Kibæk–Momhøje Trail connects Kibæk with Momhøje and runs as a gravel path through the western part of Følpøt Skov. As part of the trail, 400 metres of new path were created. The route may be adjusted, and surface conditions may change. Take this into account when planning and follow the current route on site.
Another option is the yellow Kibæk Syd route: it can start at several points and be extended onto the wider trail network in and around Kibæk. By contrast, the yellow Kibæk–Momhøje route runs between Kibæk Mølle and Momhøje Nature Centre; it can be extended onto the nature centre’s trail network. The options therefore differ: Kibæk Syd offers several starting points, while the Kibæk–Momhøje route connects the two named places.
Near Momhøje Nature Centre, an accessible 1.3-kilometre trail also passes through heathland and woodland, by Opalsøen. The lake is a remnant of former open-cast lignite mining. This loop adds to the trails in Kibæk by offering a glimpse of a landscape whose present-day lakes and open areas also tell the story of its former use.
Plan Your Journey and Stay
Kibæk Station serves the Skanderborg–Skjern railway line, which runs immediately west of Brogade. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable before your journey. When choosing accommodation, it may help to decide on your priorities first: would you like to explore Kibæk, its cultural venues and trails, or also include nearby Momhøje Nature Centre? The routes differ in their starting points and connections; you don’t have to turn them into a fixed circular tour.
