Gammel Løgten brings together the beach on Kalø Vig and the history of a former landing place. This gives you different options to focus on when planning your trip: time by the water, a walk through the protected landscape, or a look at the region’s cultural heritage.
Beach and Activities on the Water
Gammel Løgten Beach has white sand and shallow water; beach conditions can change with the seasons. There are tables, benches and a permanent barbecue area on site. As the availability of facilities can change, it is advisable to check their current status before visiting. There is also a long bathing jetty at Rosenholm Bådelaug. Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is available at the beach.
Fishing is another coastal activity: you can fish from Gammel Løgten Beach as far as Vosnæs Pynt. Be sure to observe local conservation rules. Rodskov Sea Kayaking offers sea kayaking courses for beginners and experienced paddlers in spring and autumn. The club is member-oriented, and its base is on the beach at Rosenholm Bådelaug, between Gammel Løgten Beach and Ugelbølle Beach. Check directly with the club about taking part in its courses.
The information about the beach and water sports describes different options and conditions, not a fixed programme. You can therefore choose what to focus on depending on whether you are interested in the beach facilities, fishing or a sea kayaking course. Seasonal beach conditions and arrangements for taking part in a course are separate practical considerations.
Grevelund: Protected Landscape and Circular Route
The nearby landscape of Grevelund is protected along Kalø Vig. Its hills stretch from the bay towards Skødstrup and Løgten. At the same time, parts of the area are privately owned, so access conditions may vary. Bear this in mind when planning a walk, and check local trail conditions and access rights.
A circular route along existing field and asphalt roads takes about an hour. The approximate duration gives you a guide for planning your time, but does not indicate current trail conditions or access rights. The beach and the circular route offer different ways to experience the area: the coast and shallow water on one hand, and the hills of the protected landscape on the other.
From Landing Place to Estate History
Gammel Løgten grew up around the landing place at the Vosnæsgård estate on Kalø Vig. Historically, it was a landing place for small vessels carrying goods. The name Løgten also has a maritime connection: it is associated with a burning tar barrel that was placed there as a sea mark for small boats. This is a traditional association between the name and the beacon, not a reference to a present-day facility.
An inn associated with Gammel Løgten later became a forester’s residence. The historic Vosnæsgård itself has been known since the Middle Ages as the principal estate in the village of Vosnæs. The nearby estate lies at the transition between Vosnæsgård Forest and large estate fields that slope down towards Kalø Vig. Its terraced Baroque garden now has the character of an English landscape garden. This makes it possible to appreciate both the estate’s former significance and the design of its landscape, without confusing either with a visit to the beach.
Church and Architecture in Skødstrup
As nearby cultural heritage, Skødstrup Church adds to the picture of the area’s history. The church dates from 1180 and has a Romanesque church building; the tower and porch were added in the late Middle Ages. A bench on the choir side overlooks Kalø Vig. The architecture and viewpoint are two distinct aspects of the site: the church building provides a reference point for its architectural history, while the bench faces out over the bay.
You can explore Gammel Løgten through several specific themes: the beach and its water sports, the circular route in Grevelund, or the estate history and architecture of the surrounding area. The approximate duration of the route, seasonal beach conditions and the need to arrange course participation with the club help you distinguish between these options when planning your trip.
