Several very different sides of Hundested come together at its harbor: a ferry connection to Rørvig, a small coffee roastery, a local brewery and a creative area where you can watch glassblowers and jewelry designers at work. There is also a range of cycling and hiking routes, sand art, beaches and coastal views. To help plan your stay, start by asking what you want to focus on: the harbor, a route, or particular cultural and scenic attractions?
Harbor, ferry and local experiences
A ferry connects Hundested Harbor with Rørvig. The coffee roastery and brewery are also located at the harbor. Visitors can buy coffee beans to take home at the roastery. In the creative area by the harbor, next to the old slipway, you can watch glassblowers and jewelry designers at work. These offer different ways to experience the harbor: take a ferry, shop, or get a glimpse of local creative work.
Visiting sailors must use one of the designated harbors: the outer harbor, marina or south harbor. They are not permitted to use the commercial harbor. If you are planning to take the ferry to Rørvig, include the timetable in your day’s plans.
Routes with different distances
Route 2 of the Fjordstien runs from Hundested to Frederiksværk and is 15 kilometers long. The Halsnæs Sundhedskorridor is about 10 kilometers long, starting and ending at Hundested station. This gives you a choice between a route connecting two named places and a shorter, approximately 10-kilometer route that starts and ends at the station. Another option is the Nordkyststien, a cycling and hiking route from Hundested to Helsingør.
Halsninoen also has its own character: the route follows paths and quiet side roads that are open to the public for walking. It crosses municipal, state and private land. When choosing a route, you can consider not only its stated endpoints and length, but also whether you prefer a cycling and hiking route or a walking route.
Coastal views and beach
From Spodsbjerg, you can enjoy a magnificent view across the Kattegat towards Hesselø. Spodsbjerg Fyr can only be viewed from the outside. The lighthouse is located in a partially protected area with steep coastal slopes and hilly terrain. The viewpoint and lighthouse are two specific places from which to take in the coastal landscape; the lighthouse can only be visited from the outside.
If you want to spend time at the beach, Trekanten has a 300-meter-long beach with fine sand and a sandy seabed. The information about the views, terrain and beach describes different aspects of a coastal stay: the view from Spodsbjerg, the landscape around the lighthouse and the beach itself.
Culture and activities for different interests
Knud Rasmussens Hus is a museum offering insight into the life and achievements of the polar explorer. At Hundested Sandskulptur Park, artists from around the world create sand art. Children and adults can also try sand painting there. This means you can combine a museum visit with a hands-on creative activity, without having to limit your cultural plans to just one kind of experience.
Another harbor attraction is “Klap en Fisk”: the floating platform covers 75 square meters and has two shallow touch pools. There is also a small nature playground, “Sælernes legeplads,” next to Hundested Havnehytter, with swings, nets and climbing frames. You can take these specific activities into account when choosing what to do, whether you are interested in sand art, the museum, the harbor or places to play.
Plan your stay around what interests you
When choosing a route, consider the stated distances and start and end points, as well as the difference between a cycling and hiking route and one that is open to the public for walking. If you want to combine several interests, plan them as separate activities rather than trying to fit every place into a single day.
