Chropyně offers two distinct travel interests: castle and town history, and a nature experience centred on Chropyňský Pond. Zámek Chropyně offers public tours of its historic interiors. The “Okolo Chropyně” educational trail follows a circular route around the pond. This lets you choose between cultural history and landscape as your main focus.

Castle and Town History

The rooms on the first floor of Zámek Chropyně showcase the town’s history from prehistoric times onwards. The second floor commemorates Emil Filla, who was from Chropyně and was a painter, sculptor and graphic artist. The two floors have different emphases: one focuses on the history of the town, the other on the memory of an individual artist and his connection to Chropyně.

For a visit focused on culture, the tours of the historic interiors offer a clear framework. They let you explore local history and art as distinct subjects rather than combining them into a single narrative. The floors also provide clear orientation: the history of Chropyně is presented on the first floor, and Emil Filla on the second.

Church and Tradition

Kostel sv. Jiljí was built in 1772 in the Baroque style known as Josephine. Its furnishings include a baptismal font depicting the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist with life-size figures. The creator of the font is unknown. The year of construction and style provide an architectural point of reference, while the font draws attention to a particular religious image.

Another historical tradition is the legend of King Ječmínek. It probably reached Chropyně with the Ludanice family, which originated in Hungary. The Ludanice family owned Chropyně in the 15th century. The legend is also associated with the Arpádovci, Hungary’s first ruling dynasty. This connection places the story alongside the town’s architectural and local history and links it to the history of the Hungarian dynasty; its origins are described as probable.

Pond and Educational Trail

Chropyňský Pond is home to floating water chestnut and a diverse bird population. From the castle side, the “Okolo Chropyně” educational trail connects to a green-marked hiking route and then follows a circular route around the pond. Two specific nature themes and a route connection are at the heart of it: water chestnut and the varied birdlife. If you include both culture and landscape in your travel plans, you can explore them as separate areas of interest.

When to Visit and How to Get There

The Hanácké slavnosti have been held in Chropyně since 1985 and take place every odd-numbered year. If you are travelling specifically for the festival, check the exact event date in advance.

The outdoor swimming pool is open seasonally from May to September. Opening hours vary by month:

  • May and June, and September: Monday to Friday, 1:00–7:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am–7:00 pm.
  • July and August: daily, 9:00 am–7:00 pm.

This gives you two different points of reference for your travel dates: the Hanácké slavnosti take place in odd-numbered years, while the outdoor swimming pool is open seasonally from May to September. Chropyně is served by regular bus connections. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Chropyně, you can start by choosing your travel dates and deciding what you want to focus on during your stay.
