A prominent historical landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary: its origins are estimated to date to the late 12th century and the Romanesque period. Marked hiking trails also run through the valleys of the Oslava and Chvojnice rivers. When planning a visit, you can therefore focus on cultural history, outdoor activity or local traditions.

Church, Castle and Local History

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary has three historically valuable bells. The oldest was hung in 1491. Together with the estimated Romanesque origins, this gives the church a long historical span, although the two dates refer to different events: the bell was added considerably later than the church’s presumed origins.

Lamberk Castle is also part of the area’s history. Its surviving remains lie southwest of Březník on a steep, elongated rocky promontory on the left bank of the Oslava. The castle fell into ruin before 1459. Another historical landmark is the memorial to the fallen in Březník, which was ceremonially unveiled on 3 August 1924.

Hiking Trails, Cycling and Landscape

Several marked hiking trails run through the valleys of the Chvojnice and Oslava rivers within the cadastral area of Březník. Near Březník, a red-marked hiking trail also follows the Oslava from Náměšť nad Oslavou to Ketkovice. The trails therefore cover different areas: some run within the cadastral area, while this red route is described as connecting the two named towns.

Cycling routes have been signposted in Březník since 2003. Several elevated spots in the surrounding area offer panoramic views of the landscape. Beyond Březník, a field track branches off towards Náměšť nad Oslavou into a picturesque valley. A municipal brickworks stood there from 1860 to 1940. The cadastral area is also part of the Náměšťsko Landscape Conservation Zone, whose character is shaped by a harmonious blend of open natural landscapes and planned human intervention.

Local Traditions and Specialities

Long-standing cultural and community events in Březník include Hody, traditional folk costume festivals. Březník wedding koláče are also part of the local tradition: they are considered a speciality, made using a distinctive recipe and method of preparation passed down from generation to generation. The folk costume festivals and traditional pastries give the town a distinctive cultural character alongside its trails and historic buildings.
