Lidmaň combines historic buildings and traces of earlier uses with a landscape of forests, ponds and waterways. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing the architectural history in the village from the broader landscape and route connections: the church and chapel represent different periods of construction, while the cycling and hiking routes follow different directions and have different reference points. This allows you to focus on cultural history, the landscape or one of the signposted routes.

Architectural History and Historic Traces

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary has been mentioned as a parish church since 1384. The church was built in 1738 on the site of an earlier church. Above the entrance are two coats of arms: the coat of arms of Count Kinský, with the coat of arms of the Schönburg family above it. The dates mark different stages in the history of the church: its early mention as a parish church and the construction of the later church.

Another distinctive structure is the Baldachýnová kaplička sv. Jana Nepomuckého in Lidmaň. It was built in 1874 and completely reconstructed in 1997. The brick chapel is open on three sides through arcades supported by Tuscan columns. Inside is a cast-iron statue of the saint dating from 1874. The open arcade design and the statue give a tangible sense of the building’s architecture, as do the two dates in its history.

In the immediate area around Lidmaň is Křížův mlýn s pilou in Lidmaňka, house number 28, in the Pelhřimov District. The complex was declared a cultural monument in the third quarter of 2017. It is an example of a small rural watermill with a sawmill on a watercourse with a low flow; its artisanal and industrial technical equipment has a high degree of authenticity. While the churches and chapel illustrate religious architectural history, the mill represents the connection between milling technology and sawmilling.

The village’s history has left other traces, too: remains of historic gold mining are still visible in Lidmaň. In the nearby area, above Hojava in the direction of Eustach, only the remains of the ramparts of the defunct settlement of Višněvice can still be seen. The gold workings and settlement ramparts thus point to different aspects of the past of the village and its surroundings.

Forests, Water and Signposted Routes

Extensive belts of forest stretch along the northern and southern sides of Lidmaň. Lidmaň and its surroundings are also home to a large number of ponds, both large and small. The area lies within the Želivka catchment and is drained by the Cerekvický potok. The Černovický potok rises in the cadastral area of Lidmaň, but flows in the opposite direction and is a tributary of the Lužnice. These different watercourses provide a more precise geographical picture of the landscape.

Two routes should be distinguished when navigating the signposted trails. Cycle Route No. 321 runs north–south through the administrative area of Lidmaň: from Pacov south towards Kámen Castle, then on via Dobrá Voda and Lidmaň to Kamenice nad Lipou. The green-marked hiking trail runs roughly west–east along the northern boundary of the administrative area. It leads from Černovice via Moraveč towards Nová Cerekev. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their direction and the named places along them.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

By road, Lidmaň can be reached via Road III/12818 between Pelhřimov and Černovice, and via the adjoining Road III/12819 from Kamenice nad Lipou. The nearest railway stop is in Černovice on the Obrataň–Jindřichův Hradec narrow-gauge railway line. If you are planning to travel by train, check the timetable for your chosen date. When choosing a holiday rental, you can first consider whether you would like to focus your trip mainly on architectural history, historic traces in the immediate area or the different route itineraries.
