The Sedlice Reservoir lies below the village of Sedlice in the rugged landscape of the Křemešnická vrchovina. Its impounded water extends for 3 kilometres; the reservoir covers an area of 38 hectares. These figures describe two different measures of the body of water. The reservoir was built in 1927 behind the confluence of the Hejlovka and Hejnický potok, near the point where the two watercourses form the Želivka. The confluence and the nearby source of the Želivka give the lake a specific connection to the local waterways.

Dam and road access

A road runs from Želiv through Sedlice to Humpolec and the dam. This route provides a useful landmark when including the reservoir in your stay. The reservoir and its dam are open to the public; check local conditions before your visit. A 120-metre-long stone bridge with ten arches and a concrete parapet spans the structure along the crest of the dam. Its length, arches and material make the bridge a striking architectural feature alongside the landscape and water.

Forest and water as highlights of an excursion

The forests around the Sedlice Reservoir invite you to go for walks and are suitable for mushroom picking. This means that, in addition to the water, forest activities can also be a focus of your stay. Recreation, water sports and sport fishing are also possible at the reservoir, but remain secondary to its main purpose. This distinction is useful for planning: an excursion can focus on the forests or on activities by the water, without recreational use determining the reservoir’s main purpose.

Visiting the Sedlická hydroelektrárna

The Sedlická hydroelektrárna can be reached from several starting points and combined with other tourist destinations. A red-marked hiking trail leads to it, with a cycle route running alongside. Trail conditions and markings may change, so check the current route before setting out. The interior of the hydroelektrárna is normally not open to tourists. However, you can enquire with the operator about an individual tour. As arrangements may change, make enquiries in advance.

Holiday apartment and visit planning

When looking for a holiday apartment in Sedlice, you can distinguish between excursions according to their visiting conditions: the reservoir and dam are open to the public, while the interior of the hydroelektrárna is normally not. If an interior visit is essential to your stay, check the possibility with the operator first. Walks and mushroom picking in the surrounding forests, as well as a visit to the water, offer further options for planning. This lets you choose your accommodation based on the excursions that matter most to you.
