Černovice brings together landscape and architecture as distinct focal points for a stay: marked hiking trails lead into wooded slopes, the viewpoints have their own connecting route, and the deanery church adds an architectural highlight.

Landscape and trails around Černovice

Černovice lies at the confluence of two branches of the Černovický potok and on the southern slope of Mount Svidník, which rises to 739 metres. There are several ponds and former mills along the Černovický potok. The former mills lend the stream valley a historical aspect. Marked hiking trails lead into the wooded slopes around the town. If you are interested in the waterside landscape, the ponds and former mills offer a different focus from the trails in the wooded slopes.

The viewpoints as a destination in their own right

Černovické vyhlídky comprises six viewpoints. Each has a bench and distinctive signage made from a forked tree trunk. A description by Czech Television dated 2 March 2025 mentions a 22-kilometre route connecting the viewpoints and following the contours. You can take this route length into account when planning; before setting out, it is worth checking current trail conditions, as they may change. You can also plan individual viewpoints as focal points for your stay.

Finding your way using landmarks

The viewpoint guide recommends starting the route at the bell tower of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. From there, it runs along Nádražní Street to Černovice station on the Jindřich Hradec–Obrataň narrow-gauge railway. The Černovice–Svidník–Svatá Anna cycle route also passes through the town. From the town square, the accessible Jewish cemetery can be reached via the red-marked trail. For the cycle route, it is advisable to check trail conditions before planning, as they may change.

Church architecture and local history

The deanery Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a monumental single-nave building with a cruciform floor plan. A tower rises above the façade; the complex also includes side chapels. A single-nave building has one main nave, while a cruciform floor plan describes the shape of the building when viewed from above. This makes it possible to distinguish the overall form from the architectural layout. The church stands on the site of the former Chapel of Saint Catherine. This earlier chapel site adds a historical dimension to the description of the church building.

Find hotels for your stay

Also consider the focus of your trip: viewpoints and marked trails offer a chance to explore the landscape, while the deanery church provides a distinct architectural theme. Check the details of your chosen hotel before booking and make sure they match your planned stay.
