A walk on U sv. Antonína leads through wooded terrain past old mining works, military earthworks dating from 1823, and an important pilgrimage chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. At 629 metres, U sv. Antonína is the highest point; walks are possible here all year round. This walk offers a chance to take in the landscape and history together.
Open fields and forest trails
In the Vyskytensko area, untouched meadows and wetlands alternate with historic fields shaped into elongated strips or circular plots. These field patterns give the landscape its own structure and offer a different focus from the wooded walks at U sv. Antonína. Field paths and roads in the area are lined with distinctive, centuries-old lime trees; there are also field crosses, wayside shrines and chapels. Anyone looking for more than natural spaces outdoors, and interested in historic landmarks along the way, will find these features as part of the cultural landscape.
Hiking and mining history
The Hornická naučná stezka has ten stops with information boards and runs through Hlávkov, Vyskytná Nad Jihlavou and Rantířov to Rounek. From a car park by the road, follow a forest path on foot to the mining site. Check local conditions before following the route.
The Rounek mining site dates from the first half of the 13th century to the beginning of the 15th century. Its exceptionally good state of preservation makes it unique within the Jihlava mining district. The trail thus leads from several information boards to a specific archaeological destination with a history spanning several centuries.
Church and chapel
The Church of Saint Lawrence is another cultural and historical highlight. At its core, it is a late Gothic single-nave church that was remodelled in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. It stands in an enclosed cemetery with a mortuary chapel and is protected as a cultural monument under registration number 20448/7-5404. Here, a late Gothic building phase meets a later Baroque transformation.
The free-standing Chapel of Saint Adalbert in Hlávkov is an example of vernacular sacred architecture from the second half of the 18th century. Its square ground plan, corner pilasters and rectangular entrance define the building; a four-sided roof rises into a bell tower. A children’s playground was built immediately beside the chapel in 2012. If the playground is important to your plans, check its current condition before visiting.
Traditions and planning
A local tradition is the pilgrimage in honour of Saint Lawrence in Vyskytná Nad Jihlavou. Check the current dates locally before planning your visit around it. In Rounek, an Advent gathering of three communities at the Chapel of Saint Anthony is among the local traditions; check locally as well to see whether and when it is currently taking place.
For cyclists, marked cycle route 5215 passes through Vyskytná Nad Jihlavou. Confirm its route locally before setting out. When planning, you can choose between walks and the mining trail, sacred buildings, and a cycle route, without having to combine the different activities into a fixed itinerary.
