Střítež can be explored through two distinctive themes: its pond-filled landscape and its sacred architectural heritage. A Marian chapel in the village square, a Late Baroque chapel and the Church of St. Florian provide specific points of interest for an exploration of the village. Střítež is also part of the regional “Stříbrné pomezí” route system.

Ponds and Nature in Střítež

Střítež is surrounded by the extensive waters of several ponds: Pivovarský, Obecní, Cihlářský and Mlýnský. Together, they shape the landscape around the municipality. White storks nest every year on the banks of Pivovarský rybník—a recurring natural feature that makes the pond particularly distinctive.

The old Jewish cemetery is also connected with this landscape: it lies on the southern side of Pivovarský rybník and at the western edge of the village. Its location offers a specific point of reference for local history, while the ponds define the character of the landscape. Nature and history thus stand side by side as different ways of looking at Střítež.

Chapels and Sacred Architectural Heritage

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary stands in the park in Střítež village square. The Neo-Gothic Marian chapel was built in 1903; a stone cross dating from 1817 stands in front of it. The distinction between the dates is important: 1817 refers to the cross, while 1903 is the year the chapel was built.

The interior of the Late Baroque chapel in Střítež u Jihlavy features a cross vault and wall paintings. The Church of St. Florian in Střítež u Jihlavy is a cultural monument. These sacred buildings offer several specific points of interest for anyone interested in architecture and history.

Hiking and Cycling in the Region

Střítež is part of the “Stříbrné pomezí” tourist route system. It was established by the statutory city of Jihlava together with 26 partner municipalities in its surrounding area, and covers a total of 270 kilometres. The routes take hikers and cyclists to monuments and attractions throughout the wider region.

The system includes cycling, hiking and combined routes, which are intended for both user groups. If you want to keep your options open, you can choose between routes for a single activity and combined routes. At the junctions, signs provide information about the various stops in Czech, German and English.
