Two yew shrubs in the castle park, a statue by the castle pond and a cross stone on the edge of the village offer tangible points of interest for culture enthusiasts visiting Rozsochatec. Added to these are marked hiking trails and an agrotourism offer for guests staying at “Penzion na zámku”. When planning your stay, it is worth keeping historical dates, different trail routes and the conditions of the accommodation offer in mind separately.

Cultural History and Ancient Trees

Rozsochatec Castle is listed as a cultural monument. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1714, stands on the dam of the castle pond. Two notable, free-growing small-leaved lime trees grow north of the castle grounds; their age is estimated at around four centuries. Two yew shrubs stand in the castle park; local descriptions estimate their age at 900 to 1,000 years. The estimated ages of the trees offer different perspectives: around four centuries for the lime trees, and an estimated 900 to 1,000 years for the yews.

A cross stone with a cross relief stands on the southern edge of the village. Its partly legible inscription recalls the killing of a young man on April 4, 1648. The Rozsochatská huť glassworks is also part of the village’s history: it was first documented in Rozsochatec in 1786 and was abandoned in 1794 or shortly afterward.

Taken together, these points offer a broad historical perspective: the cross stone recalls an event from the 17th century, while the statue and glassworks date to the 18th century. The estimated ages of the trees provide a different measure. In this way, local history, monument preservation and natural features come together, while the date of an event, the year of a monument and age estimates remain distinct.

Hiking Trails and Getting There

When hiking, you can distinguish the trails by their markings and destinations. A yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Rozsochatec and connects Havlíčkův Brod with Chotěboř; a green-marked route runs from Lysá via Rozsochatec and Česká Bělá to Havlíčkova Borová. Nearby, there is also an approximately 3 km yellow-marked route to Ronovec. The yellow marking therefore applies to two different destinations; the specific route is also important for finding your way. Before setting out, check the current trail route and local conditions.

If you want to combine cultural history with hiking, you can consider the routes according to their different itineraries: two pass through Rozsochatec, while another nearby route leads to Ronovec. The approximate length of 3 km refers to this route.

Rozsochatec has a railway stop on the Havlíčkův Brod–Chotěboř line. If you are considering traveling by train, check current connections and the timetable in advance.
